THE RUNNING WATER FELT LIKE THUNDER IN THE DISTANCE FOR THE TEENAGERS' HEALING SENSES. The cold breeze sent a shiver down her spine that was closely following by a stabbing pain as Peter hesitantly placed a wet cloth against on of the deep scrapes sat on top her torn skin. With her matted hair free from the tight hair tie and suit clung to her waist, they were able to assess what her body could heal alone and what might need some extra assistance. On the other hand, Peter, though still bloody and bruised, was feeling a lot better physically with his own healing factor kicking in from the moment Green Goblin departed.

Hissing, Elizabeth tilted her head back, blinking back tears. When she felt Peter go to lift his touch, she hurried to return the pressure. "Don't, you need to keep the pressure," she whispered through a trembling breath.

"Right, right... sorry..." Peter's voice was but a mere whisper amongst the irritating silence that twisted through the night sky. His cheeks splattered with blood had long tear tracks scratched through dried wounds. Tracks that continued to be defined by more soft cries as he tried desperately to keep his grief quiet.

Elizabeth gently cupped his jaw with her own trembling hand, urging him to look at her. When he reluctantly did so, she forced her voice to maintain a calm sound as she consulted the young hero. "It's not your fault," she assured gently, gliding her thumb under his eye to scrap away some of the blood and wipe the tears before they could go tumbling down. "It isn't, Peter. None of this is your fault."

She bowed her head so their foreheads would gently press against each other, warm breath fanning over the opposite side's cold skin.

Peter released a trembling breath. "We have to send them back," he whispered, earning Elizabeth instant agreement. "I'm sorry I didn't listen to you or Doctor Strange-,"

Elizabeth quickly shook her head as they pulled away, this time taking his face between both hands. "No, do not apologise for the size of your heart," she said gently into the empty air only broken by the ragged breathing. Her eyes focused on his, bold stare resisting the urge to flick down to his dried lip as that familiar panic filled her heart and she fought the urge to let her hidden emotions for the hero blind her judgement. "Your heart is the thing I love the most about you. You're selfless and hopeful and see the best in people..." Her thumbs gently caressed the damaged skin, watching as he closed his eyes to embrace the warm touch radiating from her open palm. "Don't let anything change that. Never loose your heart, Peter Parker."

Her heart skipped a beat as Peter opened his eyes, finding himself glancing at her busted lip before maintaining eye contact. With MJ pushed to the back of his mind, feelings from the past started to surface like the heat of embarrassment, the repetitive beat of their hearts syncing with a sudden worry of rejection.
