I woke up to a slight vibration in my pocket. I kept my eyes closed as I reached into my pocket and pulled out my phone. Slowly letting my eyes adjust to the screen, I saw a text message from “Finny ;)”

This is what he chose as his contact name? How cute is he?

From: Finny ;)

Thea! It was lovely to meet you last night! :) I look forward to seeing you lots this year! Xxx

There I was, smiling like an idiot. He was just so freaking adorable. I knew that I had a huge crush on him, but I met him hours ago, there was no way to tell if he liked me. Aren’t British people supposed to be cheeky? He’s probably like this with everyone.

Convincing myself not to think anything more, I got up and opened my suitcases.

Are you serious?

I began rummaging through them as fast as I could.

Goddamn, how can I be this stupid?!

Admitting to myself just how idiotic I was, I picked out an outfit. Of course, this was not easy. I seemed to have packed for the cold and rainy London, not the hot summer London.

I had to leave the hotel in jeans, a teeshirt from middle school I was going to use for bed clothes, and uggs. I felt so dumb walking outside in the insane heat.

I made my way to the shops in central London and walked in the first store that sold flip flops.

I quickly bought three pairs and put one on, while placing my uggs in the shopping bag.

I looked semi-normal now.

I kept walking until I came to a quaint little shop that sold cute summery clothes.

I was looking through the racks of shirts when I saw him.

There he was, on the other side of the store, looking through the men’s clothes. He seemed a little different, but I figured it was the distance. He looked up and we made eye contact, but he looked down quickly, not returning my smile.

What has happened? What has possibly changed since last night?

I kept shopping for about five minutes, but I couldn’t concentrate with the guy I like ignoring me just feet away.

I started walking towards him, and he moved farther away.

Why was he walking away from me?

I finally caught up with him and placed my hand on his arm. He turned around, surprised.

“Is everything okay? You didn’t want to say hi?” I asked.

“Sorry?”

“After last night and the text this morning, you didn’t even wave to me….”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he replied, more puzzled than before.

Was he pretending it didn’t happen?

“It’s me? Thea?”

“I’m sorry, I don’t know a Thea.”

What am I supposed to do now? Besides walk out and cry.

Just then he looked up and said, “Finn, over here.”

WAIT. He wasn’t Finn?

What the hell is going on?!

I turned around to see Finn walking towards us with an ice cream cone in each hand. As he saw me his face lit up and he practically screamed, “Thea!”
