minho awoke with a start, gasping for air like a drowning elephant. disoriented, he reached out for no one knows what with both hands only to fall back and hit his head on the armrest painfully.

as if this was not enough to give him a heart attack, once he was done rubbing his aching nape and opened his eyes again, he was met with a pair of eyes that glowed like the fires of hell with what was obviously rage. for the first time in his life, minho realized what hetero fanfic writers meant when they wrote that the bad boy pierced the innocent main character with his black orbes. now that he was on the receiving end of hwang hyunjin's glare he knew that eyes could indeed make a hole in you.

wait a damn minute.

"hyunjin!" gaping like a fish out of water, minho scrambled to stand up. "you're– you're okay." he stared the younger up and down like he was seeing a ghost. now, minho was not religious, but: "thank god!" he enveloped hyunjin into a bone-crushing hug, paying no heed to the teary, angry eyes that were still trying to bore holes in his face. "do you know how damn scared i was?"

despite himself and his desire to scratch minho's whole back like an enraged panther, hyunjin eventually relaxed into the hug. he was tired and scared, and minho was just so warm because he had just taken a good nap–

a nap.

with all the force that he had, hyunjin pushed minho away and gave him a resounding slap across the cheek. stunned, minho abruptly sat down.

"scared?" hyunjin cried, staring at him from above with eyes blurry from hot, bitter tears. "this is why i found you here, taking a nap, right? because you're scared for me, right?" his voice grew increasingly loud and hysterical. "because you care about me, right? because you totally give a shit about me, right–"

minho silenced his screams by smashing their lips together. how come he had fallen asleep when his only thought since hyunjin disappeared was to find him and to bring him back, and to protect him he did not know. what he knew for sure, though, is that he had to calm that beautiful, stubborn, infuriating almost-boyfriend of his first.

hyunjin wriggled his head out of minho's hand and broke the kiss. when their gazes met, minho saw that the flaming anger had vanished from hyunjin's eyes. more than anything, he looked as stunned as minho had been a minute ago, when he had got slapped.

"why?" hyunjin whispered, his voice thick from the sobs bubbling up his throat.

"why what?" minho returned the question, trying to suppress the fondness in his own voice. hyunjin had just slapped him. for the second time today. for no reason. well, almost for no reason, so minho had to treat him neutrally– "i love you."

as soon as the three words escaped minho's mouth, hyunjin burst into tears. "stop it," he yelled, his voice again loud and hysterical.

shaking his head, he rose from the half-crouching position in which minho had pulled him for the kiss. "stop being so fuckin' confusing, lee minho! look" – he gestured violently at the empty room around them – "everyone's out there, looking for me. why? because they care! you? you're here, fresh after a nap."

he shook his head again and laughed a mirthless laugh. "you don't care, minho. just say it out loud, so i can move on." he grabbed minho's shoulders and shook him as strongly as he could. "do you know what i was thinking the whole time today? i was worried that you'll blame yourself!" he screamed into minho's face. "see? you're right. i am as naive and dumb as you said. no! i'm more naive and dumb than you said because even now, when you're staring at me with that blank face of yours, i still hope that you care, you heartless jerk!"
