Kayden had two more buddies; Louis Sanchez I recognize from my pre calculus class and Cole Andrews from geography. Those three stuck to us like magnet. I mean, it was weird they hung out with us. Not that I'm complaining because to be honest, they were actually starting to grow on me. Especially Louis, the Blondie. He was a mixture of sweet and awesome. Kayden had serious issues but he wasn't all that bad.
Almost all the girls in school sending me death looks bcos the guys were hanging out with me was no surprise. At all. Not to mention Vandi and her girls secretly planning something evil against me. Not literally though. It was another 8th of May. The day of grief and bringing back lost memories. The 8th of May was the day my parents died. Every year my brother and I had this tradition where we lock ourselves at home, eat some Rocky road and bring back lost memories.
Since it was 8th of May and tradition hasn't changed, though it was a school day, we were in my small living room with two bowls of Rocky road and chocolate chip cookies, holding photos of us and our parent and bring back the past.
"Remember when I was 4, mum bought a popgun and I thought I would use it to kill bad guys" Damian said, chuckling
It earned me a laughter. "You shot out neighbor one day because he wouldn't play with you. God, you were so stupid". I bit into my cookie. Holding out a photo of me and my Dad smiling into the camera looking like there was no more sadness in the world, I smiled at a memory. "'I was eight when I took this picture with Dad" I showed the photo to Damian. "We went to the mall to get something for mum cos it was her birthday. It was supposed to be a suprise". Little drops of tears trickled from my eyes. I sniffed and chuckled simultaneously. "We didn't tell you because we didn't want you to rat out to mum bcos you know..."
My brother smiled. A sad one. "Mummy's boy"
I nodded. "I never wanted to take that picture with Dad but when he promised to get me anything I wanted, I took it without hesitation"
I sniffed. "I miss mum and Dad"Damian hugged me. "I do too. I mean, it sucks but we're Andersons. We'll survive; that's what we do"
A knock interrupted the moment. I swear, if it was Lisa then so help me God because she knew the rule.
"I'll get it". I headed towards the door with D following behind. I pulled it open and to my greatest suprise..."What are you guys doing here and how the fuck did you find my house?. Where's Lisa?".
They gaped awkwardly at me until Cole decided to speak. "We heard about "today"," Oh God, Lisa is so dead. "We thought it'd be great if we helped lighten the moment".
I sighed. "I would have been thankful if I needed your help. But this is my brother and I alone time. You guys have to go". I turned to leave. "By the way, tell Lisa I'd kill her when I see her"
"Actually, I'm right here". Her petite voice replied. She was hidden behind thier backs all these while.
I raised an eyebrow at her unbelievably. "Lisa, really?. You know the rules"
"I know and I'm sorry. I had to tell the boys why you were absent from school today".
"You shouldn't have brought them here"
"Actually, that was our doing" Louis replied. "Even though she made it clear you were gonna kill all of us"
"I wasn't talking to you, Blondie" I snapped
"I'm three feets away from you. I can hear everything"
I rolled my eyes. "But seriously, y'all have to go".
"On the contrary, they'd have to stay". That was definitely Damian.
"Why do "they have to stay"?"
"Because, Kenzy, this is what we do every year. Eat stupid cookies and cry about the loss of our both parents; our parent who died three years ago."
"Yes D. It's our tradition" I pointed out
"Yeah but don't you think this year could be different. I mean your friends are here..."
"What are you saying D?"
"I'm saying... I'm saying you should invite them in and offer them icecream or whatever..."
"Actually, we were gonna take you guys to the park that just opened yesterday" Kayden cut in.
"Better idea. What do say Kenzy?"
I hesitated. But then, they were all staring at me with pleading eyes. This was insane but maybe Damian was right. Mum and Dad wouldn't want us to keep wallowing in thier death. If this was what Damian wanted, I would give it to him.
"Let me get my purse".
💦💦
The ride to the park was a very loud one. What do you expect when there were three lively guys and a cool girl in the car.
Kayden, our driver was singing to Shawn Mendes 'senoríta' at the top of his voice. He sounded worse than a dying cat."You're making my ears bleed, Kayden" My brother pointed out.
He was seated in the passengers seat. He was quick to have called shot gun earlier."C'mon kiddo, this voice gets me lot of girls"
"100bucks it doesn't happen when you sing"
"Challenge accepted, Anderson jnr". He resumed blowing up our ears.
"But, really dude, you have to stop singing" Cole said. He and Lisa had been arguing about something since the journey began.
"Let him be Cole. I love the spirit". Lisa replied.
"Thank you Lisa. How about you K?. Don't I sound like your dream prince charming?"
I scoffed. "You do not want to hear the truth, Haynes"
"Dare me"
"No!. It's a trap". Damian yelled. "The venom she spits out is worse than you can imagine, Kayden. You do not want to cross that path" Damian said.
"True" Lisa echoed.
I rolled my eyes. They were just overreacting. I mean, I'm not that bad.
"That's not true". I defended
"I've met you Kenzy"Lisa objected.
"I'm not that bad. Louis can testify". Amongst the guys I was closer to Louis. He was the coolest and funniest. He calls me pony tail for obvious reasons.
He placed his around my shoulders and tapped it gently. "You my love, are one feisty cute devil"
I hit him on the chest. "What happened to defending me, Louis?" I feigned annoyance.
He raised his hand in mock surrender. "The truth has to be told love"
I chuckled lightly. I caught Haynes staring at us through the rearview mirror. He didn't look so happy. But whatever, this was going to be the best 8th of May I've had in 4years.
