Sue was in front of me, blocking any personal space I once had, while Jeff didn't look like the casual, composed and collected father figure I've known him as and of course, I couldn't avoid Steve's death glares that were shooting right into me

For a while, we held our staring contest, no one dared to move or utter a word not even a blink of an eye was made, as an uncomfortable silence followed along.

" Okay. Stop this, my eyes are itching " I said sharply breaking the silence as I started walking the stairs " I was at a friend's house, Bo you know her, working on a project, we didn't keep track of time and I spent the night and then ... in fact, you know what I don't have to explain myself to anyone. So I'll see you guys later ..? "

" Don't you dare take another step, young lady " Sue hissed, anger leaking in her voice and I stopped on my tracks

" I thought I was quite clear, when I said that I don't have to explain myself " I argued crossing my arms over my chest as I leaned against the stairs railing. I was angry and I shouldn't be. I don't even know why was I so mad at them when honestly, it should be the other way around "

" Like hell you don't ! " Steve snapped, his voice cold as he spoke it looked like he was trying so hard to keep himself composed

" Shut up ! " I roared as I neared him pointing a finger at his face " you are the last person who has a say in my buisness, what are you even doing here ? This is a family matter ! "

" Eve, keep your voice down please ! " Jeff's intimidating aura was hovering over me and my god, he was angry " I believe Steve was worried sick about you. I was the one who called him in to look for you. To think he's a family's friend now, it's quite normal to discuss these things in front of him "

My jaw was probably kissing the floor, by the time he was finished. It's like he was going all yoda talk on me. Was Jeff defending Steve or was I hallucinating ...again ?

" I don't understand, why are you making it such a big deal ? After all, everyone should mind their own business " I said mockingly making sure to glare at Steve's sorry ass in the process

By now, Sue turned to face me, her eyebrows were pulled up in a frown over her hazel eyes and said " We are family. your family ! Family members look out for each other, 'cause they care about each other's well being "

" Oh please Sue, tell me more jokes " I snorted with an almost sarcastic shrug " If you think this is a family , a real one, then you're fucking with yourself because this is not even the slightly bit close to real and you know you'll never have one "

I know I was a being a total bitch but those were the side effects of so many open wounds that still and will always keep on bleeding. I should've never mentioned her infertility and I didn't realize that I pushed her way over the edge and further, until I felt her right hand flying to hit me on the cheek and a smack sound was heard
