AU (modern setting)

-

Their room was engulfed in a hue of darkness you would not expect to see during the morning. The type that was neither ominous nor gloomy. There was just enough light shining through the open curtains to illuminate over two figures securely pressed together on the bed.

Blonde hair was sprawled over brunette. Limbs entangled lazily, their body heat fusing together under the sheets creating a little bubble of heat and comfort protecting them from the chill of the morning. There was a light tapping of raindrops on their bedroom window. The raindrops trickled down at a steady rate.

The clock by their bedside table shone, 9:38 a.m. The only indication that it was in fact morning.

"Good morning, Clarke," Lexa spoke into the morning air, as she went to kiss the head laying on her chest. She felt the blonde-haired girl's breath hitch from the gesture and she couldn't help but smile.

"Good morning, Lexa," Clarke replied moving her head to look at the brunette girl. Blue eyes pierced through green ones which sent chills down both their spine. Whether it was from the chill of the morning, they did not know.

Most of their weekends started like this. There was nowhere to be, no one to see. They had the time to simply revel in the fact that they got to wake up to the person they loved the most in the world.

"I love you," The words rolled out the blue-eyed girl's tongue so effortlessly like they have a million times before. The other girl smiled, used to hearing the words yet still somehow feeling butterflies erupt in her stomach.

"I love you too," She replied, her eyes filled with sincerity. Like there are no words she's ever spoken that she meant more than them. "So much." She felt the need to add. She couldn't shake the sudden constriction in her heart that often happens when she thought about just how much she loved her.

They didn't know who leaned in first. All they know is that the words they just spoke, though carrying so much weight, did not come close to expressing how they felt for each other. So they did what they usually do when words were not enough.

They spoke through actions.

Stolen glances, soft touches, and in this case, kissing.

Lips ebbed and flowed in a steady rhythm. Their hearts beating wildly in their chests. Their hands travelling everywhere on each other's bodies. Mostly to remind themselves that the other was there with them. With the way their kiss was fogging their brains, they couldn't know for sure.

They stayed like that for a while until they heard a grumbling stomach. They pulled away and chuckled lightly.

"I guess I should get you some food huh?" Lexa said more than asked to a smiling Clarke. She replied with a smile and got off Lexa so they could both get off the bed.

Clarke felt goosebumps erupt on her skin as she stood up in nothing but short shorts and a shirt. She immediately wrapped her arms around herself. Before she could freeze to death however, Lexa was already standing in front of her with two hoodies in her hand. Clarke thanked her gratefully with a chaste kiss before pulling the hoodie over her, sighing at the heat it brought.

Lexa watched Clarke with adoration before putting her own hoodie on. She walked to the kitchen to start making breakfast as Clarke made her way to the bathroom to freshen up.

Clarke could already smell the coffee when she got out of the bathroom and immediately made her way to the kitchen, practically levitating with her nose leading her. She saw Lexa preparing some toast with two cups of coffee already on the kitchen island. She took one and took a sip. She sighed again at the warmth it brought.

"What are you making?" She said watching Lexa as she sat on one of the four chairs by the island. She continued sipping on her coffee.

"Blueberry pancakes," Lexa said with a wide smile. She knew it was Clarke's favorite.

"I have never loved you more." She said teasingly. Lexa chuckled at that.

She continued preparing their breakfast as Clarke sat there keeping her company. They would talk here and there, but mostly they were engulfed in comfortable silence. Which neither one had any complaints about.

When Lexa finished cooking, she placed the pancakes on two separate plates and brought both plates to the coffee table with Clarke following suit. They silently agreed it was a lounge-around day and figured eating on the couch would be the most comfortable.

After finishing their pancakes, they decided to start a show to binge-watch for their unofficial "do nothing but lay around and eat" day. And that they did. They spent the whole day laying on the couch only getting up to get food.

Lexa sighed comfortably and pulled Clarke closer to her if that was even possible. It was almost 10 at night. They were on the couch with Clarke focused on the show and Lexa focused on her. She smiled watching the blonde girl's face react to what was happening on screen. God, she loved her so much.

She instinctively took Clarke's hand and kissed it. Maybe a little too pointed on the other girl's ring finger but she hardly noticed. Lexa did this often so it didn't surprise her. Plus, she was really into this show.

"Clarke?" Lexa tried getting her attention.

"Hm?" Clarke acknowledged while still not looking away from the tv.

"If I asked you to marry me would you say yes?"

That definitely got her attention.

She snapped her head in Lexa's direction. She was shocked but also confused because they'd talked about this before. She knew it was Lexa for her and vice versa. So she was wondering why this was suddenly being asked.

She tried looking into her favorite green eyes to try and figure out what she was thinking but Lexa wouldn't look back at her. Only looking at their entwined fingers.

Nonetheless, she replied honestly.

"Of course Lexa, you know this already." Lexa smiled at that and finally looked up.

"Just making sure." She said.

Clarke didn't have time to react before she saw a ring being slid onto her finger. Her eyes went wide. So did her mouth, but no words came out. Lexa chuckled lightly at her reaction and explained,

"Truthfully, I wasn't supposed to do it tonight. I had this whole plan to surprise you in front of all our friends and family. But I just couldn't wait. Today was perfect. You were perfect. And I wanna do all that with you for the rest of my life. Even the part where you got mad at me for taking the last slice of pizza," They chuckled at that. Clarke's blue eyes were filled at this point. "I'm sorry I ruined it." She ended, her eyes only slightly apologetic.

Clarke started shaking her head intently, her tears now flowing down her cheeks. And Lexa being Lexa, were wiping them off with the pad of her thumb with a comforting smile.

"No. No," Clarke sniffled with a light chuckle. "It was perfect." She said with a sigh. She once again got lost in Lexa's eyes. She was looking at her so lovingly, she couldn't help it.

"I really love you, Clarke." Lexa said with every ounce of honesty and sincerity in her while looking into blue eyes. "With every part of me." She whispered lower, putting her forehead against Clarke's as she caressed her face.

Instead of replying, Clarke closed the gap between them hoping it conveyed everything she wanted to say.

And it did. Lexa understood.

And they both smiled into the kiss with teary eyes. They always knew they'd be spending the rest of their lives together, there was no question there. It was the thought of announcing it to everyone they knew that got them excited.

Clarke could finally tell the world that she belonged to Lexa.

And Lexa belonged to her.
