I waited for the sirens to blast through the night, I sat on the steps to my front door and watched as three police cars pulled up and an ambulance.
For the next past week I got questioned and my house was analysed, but luckily they didn't find my basement. Unfortunately I was not aloud to go back to my house, so I stayed with Katie...
I arrived early one morning, from spending the night at the police station, to Katie's flat. She opened the door after second knock, "Come in, Kaleb. My flat is pretty small so we're gonna have to share the same bed. Are you okay with that?" She seemed overly happy. I nodded, "Whatever." I walked in and placed my bags down in her living room then took a seat on the sofa. She sat with me and turned on the TV. We watched the news to see the police weren't getting anywhere, it wasn't surprising. We watched for a couple of hours, the Katie looked over at me and asked, "So... how are you feeling?" I smiled a bit, "Nothing, thank god." She seemed confused, "What?" I sighed but kept my smile, "I don't feel anything again." Katie kept quiet and nodded.
In Quinten's will; all his money went to me. But I had no idea what to do with it. So I just stayed with Katie, I needed to keep an eye on her so that she wouldn't say anything. She had quit her job so we just spent most of the time not doing much. I tried to get back into my old routine but Martha never called back and I had lost the files, I think someone had taken them when the police where inspecting my house. Also my house was being watched by the police so taking patients home would be a bad idea.
My hunger had grown, once I had tasted the first barbaric kill of my brother; the hunger for the next kill was so strong. But if I wanted to kill someone like that again then I would have to plan and be so much more careful. I guess I did have a lot of time on my hands... I have been preying on this one victim at the local library. His name was Jack, and he looked very yummy.
I made my way to the library and sat in mu usual spot, then watched him. He caught my eye and smiled then walked over. "Hey, I've seen you a lot around here. What are you reading?" He sat in the chair opposite mine and placed his book down. I closed my book and answered, "'The Last Vampire' It's very interesting, what about you?" I nodded towards the book he had put down. He chuckled, "I have no idea what that book is about, I just wanted an excuse to come over here." He looked me up and down. I was confused, "Why would you want to pretend to be reading a book just to come over here?" I didn't break eye contact, I was trying to make him uncomfortable by staring. But he didn't seem uncomfortable, he stayed locked in my eye contact. "Because I thought you would want me to have an excuse, isn't that the normal thing?" He answered while smiling. I played with my beard. "I wouldn't know." I answered. He giggled and asked, "Do you want to go out for a drink tonight?"
"Yes, I'll write down my address for you," I used some paper on the table and looked for a pen, Jack pulled one out of him jacket and handed it to me, "I always keep one spare just in case of these moments. I'll pick you up at around seven. Is that okay?" I handed him Katie's address and nodded, "Of course." I also gave back him pen and shook his hand, he smiled and left. "Well that was easier than I thought..." I mumbled and got up to go back to Katie's. She ran to the door when she heard me open it. "Oh Kaleb!" She squeaked, my heart pounded, "What's wrong?" I started to fidget. She shook her head and smiled at me, "Nothing is wrong, I just missed you!" She pulled me in for a hug. I pushed her off and walked into the living room, I called out to her, "I'm going out tonight. So you don't have to get me dinner." She followed me into the living room, "Oh... what are you doing?" I sat myself down on the sofa, she sat next to me, I answered, "I'm going out with a friend." She shot a glare at me, "I didn't know you had a friend... who is she?" She muttered. I flicked the TV on with the remote and surfed the channels, "He is called Jack." I murmured. She looked surprised, "He... oh well have fun." She smiled and patted my knee.
