"Sawyer," called Vinnie the Villager from her cell on the middle deck. "You just gonna stay quiet all night while we have ourselves a little cell-block party?"

"Never been much of the party type, Vinnie," Sawyer responded from his place inside the hull.

"Oh... well! Could you play your guitar?" Vinnie asked. "Ooh! And could you sing your city's anthem?"

"Aw, no--I'll play on the guitar but don't ask me to sing..." Sawyer said, grabbing his guitar from the corner of his cell and strumming the strings, needing to tune one a little.

"Aww, but you sing it so beautifully!" Vinnie said.

"Coriander can sing, too," Sawyer mentioned, starting the melody of Cobrose's anthem.

"But it just ain't the same," Vinnie remarked.

"Ugh, rude," Coriander interjected from the same floor as Vinnie. "I'll have you know, I spent an entire decade in music class. I have a degree in Noteblock Orchestra."

"Yeah, Noteblock Orchestra--we need a singer, nitwit," Vinnie nagged. "Sawyer is a natural, anyway. He didn't need school for his type of music."

"That's very polite of you Vinnie, but I don't think I'm feeling up to singing tonight," responded Sawyer.

"You know what? You're a looney," remarked Vinnie. "You always have some excuse for your singing--hell, the entire time we've been here I think you've only sang once!"

"I've always preferred guitar, y'know?" Sawyer said between strums. "The silent hero of any song is the guitar."

"Yeah right, and I was born yesterday," complained Vinnie. "You sing like you've been doing it in secret your whole life. What are you gonna do when you get out of here? 'Cause I doubt the Cobrose Guard will hire us back after this."

Sawyer frowned, glad that none of them could see him.

"I never planned on getting out," he explained. "We're so far from home--and nobody does know a way back--so we're stuck here."

Vinnie sighed in her cell and looked over at Coriander, who shook his head at her, his villager nose swaying.

"I know this ain't nothing like what it used to be, but what are you gonna do for the rest of however long we're here?" Vinnie asked, letting out a soft tone she didn't normally use. "Same old, same old? How fun has that been, Sawyer?"

Sometimes, Sawyer disliked how persuasive Vinnie could be, especially since she always found a way to be right.

"Alright, fine--but just the Cobrose Anthem, then I'm only playing guitar songs," Sawyer compromised. Vinnie whooped silently, and Coriander rolled his eyes.

"Thank you, Sawyer!" Vinnie said gratefully.

Sawyer sat down on his cell bed and started strumming slowly, building a rhythm, then clearing his throat.

"Sorry," Sawyer apologized, then continued the rhythm.

"Oh Cobrose is our home on the road, with walls built 'round to resemble a rose.

"Some call it downtraughten--but I call it home.

"'Cause Cobrose is where the fearless are from."

"Yeah! Sing it, Sawyer!" Vinnie cheered as she danced by herself in the tiny cell, then she looked over at Coriander, who had his arms crossed and a displeased look on his face. "Come on, Noteblock Boy! You just gonna stand there like a stump?"

Coriander scoffed arrogantly, but he put in the effort to do something of a dance.

"Oh Cobrose--" Sawyer stopped with a gasp, then set the guitar aside and ran to his cell bars to try and look out the small window of the ship.
