"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Jason angrily pushed Rebecca away, she looked at him with teary eyes. "I miss you Jason, I miss your touch, your kisses" she tried to sit on his lap again but he jumped to his feet and took a few steps away. "Come on Jess, I know you still want me" Rebecca sat on the edge of his desk and lifted her skirt, parting her legs enough for him to see her lacy underwear.
"Shall I remind you that you organized my wedding?" he growled angrily and Rebecca shrugged indifferently. "We both know that this wife of yours, with her shy demure disposition and ever happy smile, can't satisfy you darling" Jason gritted his teeth and almost jumped the distance between them, standing between her legs and grabbing her by the throat.Rebecca clung to his wrist, panting. "Don't ever talk about Cassidy like that!" the door to his office opened again and he looked up, absolutely furious.
"Cassidy?!" Jason stared into Cassidy's wide-eyed horror, then looked back at Rebecca, who was smirking devilishly, and finally realized exactly what his wife was seeing right now. He backed away quickly and walked towards her. "Cas, it's not what you think..." she shook her head and motioned for him to stay away from her. "I have to..." Cassidy's voice broke and she took a step back, trying to catch her breath and keep the tears from flowing. "I need time" Jason stepped towards her but she slammed the door and he swore.
"Did you know Cassidy was coming?" he turned and looked at Rebecca, who was flatly fixing her clothes. "Sure, I called her anyway and invited her to lunch" she shrugged and Jason narrowed his eyes. "How much did my father pay you?" Rebecca sighed and rubbed her forehead. "Enough so I don't have to work for the next ten years" she looked around for her bag. "Why, the six months have long passed, my grandfather's part is now mine, why is Anthony trying to separate us?" he insisted and Rebecca shook her head.
"Can't you really think of it yourself?" Jason narrowed his eyes as he watched her walk towards the door, but as Rebecca walked past him, his fingers closed around her throat again. However, this time, Rebecca was scared, she had known James for a long time, once upon a time she was even his lover, his look, his attitude, she had made a mistake for which she would pay, she had betrayed him, and he did not forgive betrayals.
Jason took his phone out of his pocket and typed a message, not even paying attention to Rebecca struggling with his hand. He sighed, sent the message and looked at her blankly. "I'm sorry" she whimpered, her eyes starting to glaze over, her face turning ashen and she was gasping for breath. Jason raised an eyebrow and released her, Rebecca dropped to her knees coughing and he crouched down, bringing his face close to hers. "Run you little doe run for your life" he almost whispered and Rebecca's horrified gaze met his before she jumped to her feet and ran out of his office accompanied by his sinful laugh.
Jason looked after her for a moment then dialed Cassidy "Come on love pick up" he rummaged through his desk looking for his car keys "The subscriber's phone is disconnected or out of range please try again later" he heard a monotone voice on the other side and cursed angrily, walking towards the door. "Leyla, cancel all my meetings, I don't know when I'll be able to come back, if it's not important, transfer it to someone else, cancel the meeting on the board until further notice!" his secretary nodded and Jason went to the elevator.
Her eyes burned and her body screamed in pain. He had promised, swore that he loved her, they tried for a baby, but still he betrayed her, he cheated on her. And he was like the rest, sweet talk and charming smile, but when they got tired of a woman, they betrayed you and replaced you. But the fool was Cassidy, after everything she had been through, after so many betrayals, she still trusted him. And this time it was different, it was her last straw, the moment when everything in her went numb and there was nothing left.
Her tears were flowing, but it didn't matter, she wasn't crying, she couldn't, she had so many things to do. She couldn't go back to the apartment, she didn't want to see Jason, but she was sure he would follow her. Cassidy turned off and threw away her phone, leaving it in the company parking lot. She got into her car and stopped in front of the nearest bank, withdrew her credit card limit from the ATM and left her car in front of the bank, hailing a taxi.
And here she was, on the run again, this time it was supposed to be forever. She was used to it, but this run was not like others, it would take her further away, where she would be alone, with no friends to track her down ,she wouldn't have a permanent address and a job, she wouldn't stop, ever. Jason wasn't Nicholas, he could afford to find her. And she had to be smarter and faster.
"How come you can't track her, what the hell am I paying you for!" Jason swept everything off his desk, making the man across from him jump in surprise. "Mrs. Mallory is a smart woman sir, she ditched her phone and car, she doesn't use her credit card or her real name. It's not easy to find her like that" the man tried to justify and Jason raised an eyebrow. "Are you saying my wife is smarter than all of you put together?" Jason asked dangerously low and the man shivered.
"Find my wife, dammit!" Jason roared after a few seconds of silence and the man stormed out of his home office and out of the apartment. "Where are you Cas?" he sat down in his chair and buried his face in his hands. He was aware that running away from Nikolas had taught her to hide, but she had always kept in touch with Maya, Christina and Peter, and now even they didn't know where she was. His father was still out somewhere, and Cassidy was alone. Jason wanted to be mad at her, to blame her for not giving him a chance to explain, but could he really blame her? "She's been betrayed so many times, why should it be any different for her now?" Christina had asked him before slamming the door in his face.
But it was different because it was him and she was his, they loved each other. Jason needed her to live, to breathe, to exist, and the more time passed, the more the humanity that Cassidy had awakened in him disappeared. If he didn't find her soon, when he did, it might be too late for him, for them, for her. Jason closed his eyes and instantly her beautiful blue eyes appeared, they were calling to him, her smile beckoning him to go on, to find her. "Soon, love, very soon" he whispered wearily.
Cassidy washed her face and looked in the mirror. "What am I going to do now?" she looked down and sighed, covering her stomach with her hand. "Why now, my little one?" a soft smile played on her face as she thought of the life growing in her womb. Jason had betrayed her, but she loved him, and this little creature would be the memory she would cherish forever, and also remind her why she should never trust anyone again.
The last weeks were difficult, the most difficult of her life. But this baby, it was the reason she kept going. Sometimes, especially with morning sickness or dizziness, she wondered if she should call Jason, tell him he was going to be a father, maybe listen to him and forgive him, but then the sight of her husband standing between Rebecca's legs, and it all disappeared as it had appeared.
