As I watched Peter disappear into the sky and out of my line of sight. I couldn't help myself but smile. He's so free, everything I wanted to be. He acts like he's never even seen the horrors of the world, and maybe he hasn't, but I want to know more about him either way.
A small pull at my hand reminded me I'm not alone. I look down at the dirty face of the boy holding my hand, oh I wish I could remember what Peter said his name is. Slightly, maybe?
The boys walked me through the Forrest. Not one said anything to me and I was strangely okay with that. The only thing that could be heard was the sea shanty they were singing.
After we had been walking for a good two miles we came across a huge oak tree. Most of the trees in Neverland were above average hight but this one was taller then any I had seen before!
Not only was it tall but it seemed to twist around itself with various knot holes damaging an otherwise perfect bark.
All at once the boys stopped walking causing me to stop short to avoid running into any of them.I looked around in confusion " I thought you were taking me to your house." the youngest looking of the boys gave me a toothy grin.
"We are. And here we are. Home sweet home!"
"All of you live in a tree?" how is that even remotely comfortable.
"Haha! No we live in the tree!"
"Uh-huh sure you do."
"We do just look!" he pushes in one of the knot holes that is just below my eye level and the tree starts to move. The rock leaning against it moved aside and the tree untwists itself to reveal a set of wooden stairs leading into the ground!
"Oh how clever!" now this is going to be a great tale to tell Eric when I go home!
I follow the boys down the steps to see a room that has a very long table lined with chairs, this seems to be the main room. However there are a couple small rooms branching off which I assume is where the boys sleep.
"This is the coolest place I've ever seen!" I say as I run my hand over a small wooden sculpture carved into one of the chairs.
"Wendy where did you come from?"
"Well..." I didn't know how I should answer that because if Peters earlier reaction to my story. So I decided to go with a simple " It's a long story I would much rather hear about you guys"
I was the enthralled by tales of these lost boys who have yet to introduce themselves. There stories of Neverland made it seem as magical and adventurous as I had always dreamed. I remember my mother once saying there is nothing quite like a child's imagination.
The Twins were in the middle of telling me how they fought off five Indians with one of them on the others back. They were also acting out the skit. While one sat on the others shoulders with a wooden sword the rest of they boys were fighting them off.
Slightly stuck his foot out last minute tripping them twins, sending them flying across the room onto the hammock directly above me.
There was a loud creak and for the second time today I was trapped under boys.
I was unable to contain my laughter! I wasn't alone as the boys soon joined in. Im not sure I've ever felt as happy as I do today.
We were laughing so hard that I didn't feel the pair of green eyes watching us. I didn't see the grin he wore in the shadows until he laughed out loud at our ridiculous situation.
Our smiling eyes met and I'm not sure if its just all the excitement from today but there is something about Peter that makes me actually want to take his earlier offer to stay.
