"So, Ms. Pretty and Perfect, I hear Julius dumped you." Shawni blocked her locker first thing Monday morning and she was not here for her games.
Why did one girl in the school hate her so much? What had she done to her? If it was not for Shawni bullying her, maybe they could be friends. She did not know much about the girl, but maybe beyond this bullying thing, she was a nice girl.
Julius sure seemed to think she was his friend.
Now he could be with her. They could be together and Shawni would leave her alone.
"Don't get it twisted. You heard wrong." No way was she going to tell Shawni that she was the one that dumped Julius. It was still painful for her to dump the best boyfriend she ever had.
"Oh no, I don't think so." Shawni smiled at her but she knew it was a fake smile. "Too bad! So sad! Oh well, now he can be with a real woman. Someone he really cares about and someone who cares about him."
"Good, now go."
But that did not make Shawni go away. She still stood there blocking her locker.
"Look Ms. Pretty and Perfect, I'm getting so tired of you thinking you're all that. I will wipe the floor with you, catch these hands lil girl!"
"Oh yeah? So you want to fight me?" Lee said toughly, but inside she was frightened. She had never been in a fight before. She did not even know if she knew how.
"Right here, right now," Shawni said, rolling up her sleeves.
Lee stood there, too stunned to move. Was she really going to fight this bully? Maybe she had to and she would leave her alone. Mark suddenly came from nowhere and put his arm around Lee.
"Is there a problem?" he asked her.
"No," Shawni said politely, putting on a nice fake smile again.
"Lee?" Mark said to her.
Was she going to admit to Mark that she was afraid to fight this girl that had been taunting her for weeks? All she wanted was to be left alone, come to school, learn, go home and enjoy her life. Why did high school have to be so weird, with cliques and jealousy and bullies, and feeling so alone?
"No Mark, there's no problem."
"Goodbye Shawni," Mark said to her.
Shawni rolled her eyes, moved away from Lee's locker, then flicked her long hair and walked away.
Lee let out a sigh as she opened her locker.
"Are you okay?" Mark asked her.
"Yeah, thanks."
"She'll get tired of bothering you one day."
"I hope soon." She smiled at Mark. "Thanks for being my knight in shining armor."
"Who? Me? No!"
"You were," Lee said. "So how have you been? We hardly talk anymore."
"I know, that's because you're so busy Ms. Celebrity."
She playfully pushed him. "Yeah well, I'm going on vacation next week."
"No kidding! Good for you."
It was nice talking to Mark again. She really missed him. He was still not out to everyone, and she would never out him. He was a great guy and hopefully, he would find someone that deserved him. She was glad they still had their friendship.

The rest of the week was pretty quiet for Lee. Shawni, or Baby G the Hater as she called her in her head, did not bother her at all. She still missed Julius like crazy, but her friends kept her mind off him...mostly.
"Girl!" FeeFee said loudly while they were on break hanging in the outside terrace area where students liked to sneak and smoke, or enjoy the nice weather. Something so different for her to do in November, enjoy the nice weather.
"Umm, girl what?" Lee asked.
"Have you seen the new girl at school?" FeeFee asked them.
"Uh, who starts school this late in the year?" Yvette asked.
"I haven't seen anyone new," Lee said, head in her phone, scrolling through TikTok videos with no sound on.
"Oh, that's right, you two are fresh meat," FeeFee said with a laugh. "She's a sophomore."
"Okay, so what up about her?" FeeFee asked.
"Well, she is drop dead gorgeous, and I heard she threatens Shawni's spot on the Hottie list."
Lee rolled her eyes at that. "Not this Hottie List thing again!"
"Say that all you want because you know you're freshman hottie," Yvette said and nudged her. "I would kill to be on it...wait, that means I would have to kill my bestie!"
"Vette, shut it," Lee laughed at her. She thought her friend was gorgeous, and whoever made this list up overlooked her for sure. She was a nobody, and the only reason she stood out as a freshman was because of her height.
"Anyway, Shawni is pissed! She is probably going to harass this girl because she hates all girls prettier than her."
"Oh! Maybe that's why she has left me alone."
Lee did not want anyone else to be bullied by Baby G the Hater like she was, but she liked the pressure off of her.
Today was their last day of school before break so she was ready to leave soon as the last bell rang. Her mother picked her up and they had plans to have a spa day before they left. Massages, facials, manicures and pedicure. Then her mother washed and cute her hair so it would be fresh for all the wear and tear of the photo shoot.
She had never been to Miami and she was so ready to go. She needed this. She was more focused than ever to kick her career up a notch.
