Drip...drip...drip....

The water fell from Jareths face as he gripped the wash basin. He breathed deeply and slowly. It was finally starting to hurt him, his magic. And it seems there was no end to the curse that he was born into.

The Curse of the Goblin King.

Woman after woman entered the Labyrinth, they played out their silly little fantasy of some High Entity falling in love with them, while they got to go on a grand adventure. And then they left. He offers them the world, slaved over every stone in the walls, making sure everything was as enchanting as their hearts desired...

But it wasn't enough.

Nothing was ever enough.

And where does it leave him? Breaking into more and more pieces as they all toy with his heart as if it could be easily fixed. He could fix anything in the Labyrinth.

Anything except for him.

Their words throughout the years echo in his mind.

It's too much!

Too easy...

Piece of cake!

How am I supposed to get through this?

I'd rather DIE than be around the likes of YOU!

...Nah you can keep my brother.

He was a game to them. A game that they could play and win, and move on with their lives.

Maybe he's allowed them to win for too long.

The door opens and Tiq walks in with another towel and hands it to him. He grabs it and wipes his face and discards it towards the woven basket. He looks down at her. "Tiq."

She looks up at him and blinks, waiting for him to speak.

"Do you think I've been going too easy on the players?" Jareth asks looking wistfully at the wall. This must be a trick question.

"Well, I do-"

"It was rhetorical." Jareth said sharply and then turning into the owl and flying out of the room. She looked down at the puddle of water and feathers.

"Such a drama King..." She mutters.

He still visits the park that he had first seen Sarah. He doesn't look for her anymore though. She's long gone.

Instead he watches people go about their normal daily lives, and go on walks. They talk to each other, and it was the only place that he felt humans were actually happy.

But today?

He had flown back to flattened wasteland, filled with stinky humans and machinery that broke the grass down. Pipes and concrete stuck out of different areas, the bridge had been toppled over and been pushed aside into an unrecognizable trash pile, and the shouts overtook any bird song.

There truly was no peace anywhere.

And even though humans constantly took his heart, he still could not forgive them over this.

He made a mental note to send the goblins to destroy the construction site later.

He looked at the sign that read what was going to be built.

A detention center for unruly juveniles.

Absolutely revolting.
