That night the men looked around with flashlights, blinking sleep away from their eyes. You had joined them, setting up cameras and checking to make sure the system would work.

You finally sat down at about midnight and the men packed up and left. But you stayed there for some time, enjoying the quiet and the fresh air.

You tried to imagine what the land must have looked like before you got here. How people enjoyed it. Unfortunately your job was to bring order after destruction. So you never got to see what it was like before. You only created the after.

And their After was never happy.

They build concrete Jungles for old men to play in, and using blood to stain it and sell it as the perfect dream.

But it's the thing that keeps you alive.

And sometimes you have to do things you hate in order to survive.

Finally you get up and make your way out of the park to go catch a late night bus, knowing you'd have to come back to the same dull view tomorrow. You pause after hearing a rustling.

You turn around, and conduct a once over, but nothing was there. You check the equipment, the cameras, and even behind the few trees still standing.

Nothing.

You scoff and walk away.

"Goblins." You say distastefully, shaking your head.

You found a catastrophe the next morning.

The camera had been bitten through.

"What the fuck." Trevor exclaims while he looked at the box TV on the cart. "Rewind that again?" Thomas asked.

You slung your bag off and looked at the TV.

A small gray thing, or maybe 14 you now saw, had crawled across the yard. Out of nowhere a grinning goblin face pops up in the camera. Proceeds to lick it. And take a bite. You heard the audio of it spitting it out.

"Human's toys taste weird. Their hands taste better."

You looked at the men and looked back at the land.

"Do you believe us now?" Trevor says smugly.

You shook your head, shocked.

"Well city boy...welcome to the Hell we've been living in 3 months." Trevor says. Thomas fist bumps him and then swivels around and smirks at you.

"Suck my dick. That'll be a perfect addition to your report Super Nanny." They get up and walk away.

You didn't know what they were triumphant for. That thing could bite through metal.

You rewound the tape and paused it when you saw some shadow of a figure in the corner.

You get close to the TV and squint.

There's a man right there. And the goblins are following him.

~*~

"A what?" The Boss asked.

"I don't know. The men are calling it a goblin. It bit through metal." You said rubbing your temples. You didn't add the speaking part. That would be too much.

"Stay right where you are. Give the men the rest of the day off. I'll be calling some people....except for the men who've already seen it. Keep them there."

You ended the phone call and let your hand fall to your side.

"Goblins..." You slightly laughed at yourself. That was going to be a great story to tell the family.

The Boss shortly arrived with multiple vehicles behind him. Police and detectives, and probably CIA looking men. Or FBI? You didn't know what Acronym these men were, but they were definitely special agents.

Men in white suits come out and check the place out. There was a lot of head shaking, nothing was found.

A white haired man walks up to the TV and watches the clip with Thomas, Trevor, and Kip. You haven't joined them yet. You didn't want to. You'd seen the clip.  After a while of talking; Trevor, Thomas, and Kip leave. Probably to go home.

The white haired man walks up to you. "I'm Mr. Roberts, and where I work is classified."

"That's a nice department, classified." You say trying to use humor to soothe your nerves. This didn't feel right. Mr. 'Roberts' being here. You had a feeling you shouldn't tell him anything.

"Was anything else found in this area? Any artifacts, relics, weird spots where the phone doesn't work?" Mr. Roberts asked.

Your mind went back to the book that was laying in a protective seal to prevent further oxidation.

"No." You found your mouth saying. "Just the strange goblin looking thing."

"I would suggest keeping this under wraps. No reason to make people panic." Mr. Roberts says with a kind smile.

You nod. "Thanks for your service Mr. Roberts."

"Oh please, Mr. L/n, no reason to be all formal. No thanks necessary." Mr. Roberts turns and then disappears just as quickly as they'd come.

An arm slings around your shoulder.

"Y/n! Go home for the rest of the weekend, relax, party with your girl, and on Monday come back and work and nothing like this happened...got it?" The Boss said with a friendly tone. His eyes warned you though.

He walks off after you nod.

You roll your eyes "Relax with your girl...do I not look gay enough? How embarrassing." You slightly chuckle to yourself as you get your things.

Sometimes you're pretty funny.

Jareth looks at the park.

Maybe it was really time to let it go.

He'd been clinging onto it, like it could bring him something but it never would. It was best to just leave the human race to its advancements, while he rotted away in his castle, until all his subjects turn to mold and there were only gray skies.

"Oh don't be dramatic Jareth." He chided himself as he lay on a thick branch. He takes out an apple and inspects it.

Maybe he could poison them with fae fruit- no no no. That wouldn't be playing fair.

He smiles to himself before taking a bite.

Goodbye......sarah....

And she fully left his heart as he flew to the castle, where his goblins were playing happily, with the stolen equipment of the park.
