(Modern AU):

You got yourself dressed in the mirror, running a hand over your face before picking up the pair of sunglasses on the sink and putting them all. It's the classic all-black ensemble. Leather all over, a pair of gloves that complemented the well-cut jacket, pants that were skin tight yet comfortable to move around in, and your pair of trusty combat boots.

They never fail to deliver the final blow.

The Fatui arranged for Childe to be your partner for the day, and apparently you two were supposed to carry out a hit-and-run today. The other details were only revealed when you met up with him. Despite some contract hitmen thinking that this would be a handicap in carrying out the job, you find that it only adds to the fun; pushes your limits further each time you try to adapt to fulfil the mission.

Also, Childe?

You'd rather him than anyone else in the Fatui to be honest.

Dottore's chill, but he has a weird fascination with chemical killings while you prefer to settle it physically, hence, it'd always ended up in you having to leave your targets alive for him to toy around with, and if they're unlucky, experiment. Scarmouche's fun to be around until you tease him about his height, somehow he never could take that joke. Not worth the insults you'd gain in return, you decided early on. You used to work with Signora too, and honestly speaking, that lady captured your heart. Alluring yet deadly, a role model to all assassins. She passed on however, when she was cornered by one of her targets that she was playing with. That was the only flaw she had, being too confident of herself. Pulcinella's a nice old man as well, but you could never guess what he was thinking of. And his high risk high rewards plan were often well calculated, but the times you almost ended up killed yourself acting as bait left much to be desired while working with him despite the extra payment he'd add on for you.

The rest of the Fatui you hadn't had the privilege of working with just yet, but you were still looking forwards to it.

It's just that no one seemed to be able to match the passion of physical combat that you had with Childe. The thrill and the way you'd know that he'd always have your back. You two get along well too, jesting around and getting drinks after every job you finished together. He had the habit of paying as well, despite you insisting. The only way you could pay him back was the occasional gift of weapons.

Your phone rang just as you locked up the doors to your hotel room. The Fatui will take care of the checking out so you'd be able to leave for your next job almost immediately.

Efficient and well-paying. What's not to like about working with the Fatui?

"Hello?"

"Hey partner." You could hear the smirk in Childe's voice, but there was a nervous laugh that accompanied it this time.

"You sound nervous." You commented lightly, looking around as you stepped outside of the front doors to see if Childe was already here.

"Client's request came a little outlandish today."

"Oh?"

"Yes. Speaking of that, come into the alley right opposite you."

---

"A clown car?" You raised your eyebrows as Childe rolled down the mirror on your side. It stayed raised, your mouth nearly falling open as you saw the get up he was in.
