I stand at the end of the hallway, the cold wind freezing my nose. I feel my face with my numb fingers moving a piece of hair out of my eyes. I look to my side seeing a face that I really did not want to see. Calum Hood. Everyone knew he was the biggest jerk in the entire school and only the girls who were desperate would actually consider him as a boyfriend. His relationships lasted 2 days and just to say it out plain, he was a real shit.

A smug look falls upon his face, his speed picking up. I look around to see who he was heading for before a sigh escapes my lips, he was coming towards me. I was friends with the people he hung out with, which definitely did not mean I wanted to be friends with him.

"Hey Alaska! How are you? You still a virgin?"

I look around my cheeks burning at this point, glaring back at him. I swear, truly I hated this kid. I roll my eyes pulling out my phone and checking the time. I had Spanish in 2 minutes, and then I could get away from this kid. I begin to walk towards the classroom Calum walking close by my side, not taking his wide eyes off of me. I look at him, raising my eyebrows.

"I have to be to Math in 30 seconds, you have to be to Spanish, which for your information is halfway across the campus, in 25." His eyes widen, a smile growing across his face.

"Sorry mom, I won't do it again." He says sticking out his tongue and walking off, causing me to smile. He was a god attractive kid, no doubt, no wonder every girl would die to even talk to him. I walk into the classroom to see my best friend Ashton sitting at my desk. A huge smile grows across my face, walking towards him. I loved him, but ever since we started hanging out Calum had always butted in. His other friends were great, but something about Calum was odd to me, and I just hadn't figured it out yet.

"Hey Al!" he says smiling wider than usual. I laugh pushing him out of my seat and sitting down. His smile remains as he sits in his seat behind me.

I turn my body, my eyes meeting his. "Why are you in such a good mood today Ash?" I ask, him biting his lip. I lean my head to the side, him mocking me. "C'mon. Is it a girl?" He turns red and licks his lips. I smile and lean my chin on my chair.

"Who? Who is it?" I yell, him hitting the top of my head. He mouths 'shut up' before running his hands through his hair.

"Lila Summer." he says quietly causing me to frown. Lila Summer, aka the school's #1 bitch. She dated Calum for a while but cheated on him with this college kid. She always seemed to have a way of drawing in nice people and turning them into her slaves. Or at least that's what happened to Calum.

He used to be a straight A kid, always girls the way they were meant to be treated. Once he met Lila, he totally changed, and lost all of his friends. Michael, Ash, and Luke stayed, but that wasn't enough. He started talking to guys who dated girls for sex and popularity, and soon enough he was one of them. After I met Ash, Calum began treating me like shit, and I never wanted to hang around them anymore. But when he asks for me to come over or go places, I can never seem to refuse.

"Oh Lila, wow that's great Ashton. It really is." I say turning back to the front of the room. I wasn't jealous, at all actually. I was just scared, scared for him, scared for me. All I knew now, was that lunch was going to be hell.

"Did you get any of that?" Ashton asks opening the door for me. I shake my head laughing before Ash grabs my hand and leads me towards the lunch area. As we walk I see Luke, Mikey and Calum sitting down at a table and Lila walking towards Ashton. Great, all the people I didn't want to see.

I take my hand from Ashton's walking towards Luke and sitting down next to him. "Hey." I say leaning my head on his shoulder, him leaning his on mine. He moves his head looking into my eyes.

"What's wrong Laska? I can tell somethings wrong..." He says cocking his head to the side. I shake my head turning back to my phone. He smiles and looks over at Michael, them both looking at me.

Michael leans in closer to me. "Hey it's Friday do you want to come over to mine tonight? With Ash, Luke and Cal of course." He says. With the words 'Cal' I was not up to it. But I could't resist spending time with my best friends.

"Sure." I say, a fake smile spreading across my face.

I look over at Calum, a genuine smile meeting my lips. He had such a beautiful smile when he was laughing. And when he would bite his lip, his jaw line would show perfectly. His arms looked almost chiseled, with a tattoo of something centered on his forearm. He was so interesting, like a puzzle that you needed to solve. He was a puzzle I wanted to solve. But then I remembered the one thing that was holding me back.

I was supposed to hate him.
