'THUMP, THUMP, THUMP, THUMP.'

"Airi," I sighed, turning my head away from the sink to look at the small girl peeking around the corner. "What have I told you about the stairs?"

The girl averted her blue-gray eyes, looking down at the floor in guilt . "Take the stairs one at a time..."

"That's right," I affirmed, motioning for her to come closer. "But I'm not mad at you or anything. I just want you to be careful so you don't hurt yourself."

She cautiously approached me, wrapping my midsection in a hug when I softly ran my fingers through her dark blue, almost black hair.

Suddenly, there was a 'THUD,' followed by a shrill wail. I shook my head, removing the rubber gloves I was wearing and placing them next to the sink before leaving the kitchen to investigate the source of the noise.

Just as I figured, a young boy sat at the bottom of the stairs, a fresh bruise tainting his smooth, pale, skin. He clutched his leg, his ruby eyes glistening with tears.

"See Airi," I said, shaking my head. "This is why we take the stairs one at a time."

"I was!" The boy argued, crossing his arms.

I chuckled, kneeling down to inspect his shin. "Really? Then please tell me, Ren, how did you get that bruise?"

It took the boy a few seconds to answer. "I tripped."

"And now you have an ugly bruise!" Airi chirped, sticking out her tongue.

"Airi, that wasn't very nice," I chided, gently grabbing Ren's leg. "You're his big sister, you should comfort Ren and ask him if he's okay."

Airi sulked but nodded, kneeling in front of her brother.

"I'm sorry I made fun of you," She apologized, her eyes falling to the bruise on his shin. "Are you okay? Did it hurt?"

Ren sniffled, rubbing his eyes. "It hurts..."

"That's why you should be careful on the stairs." Airi reprimanded him, a smug look on her face.

I shook my head, laughing softly. "This is a lesson for both of you; be careful on the stairs. Now, what should we have for breakfast?"

"Pancakes!" Ren exclaimed.

"We had pancakes yesterday!" Airi whined, offering her own suggestion. "Waffles!"

The two children argued back and forth for several minutes. I giggled quietly to myself, wondering if I should tell them that both foods were made with the same ingredients.

I awoke to a loud knock on the bedroom door, Aizawa's voice rousing me from my half-asleep state.

"It's 6 am," He yawned from the other side of the door. "We leave in an hour. The bathroom is all yours, there are new hairbrushes and toothbrushes under the sink, feel free to use them."

"Alright," I replied, sitting up. "Thank you."

Aizawa's footsteps got further away and I got up and out of bed, stretching for a moment. My spine didn't make the satisfying pop it usually did, but then again my body was much younger than before, so the aches and pains I once had from age were gone.

I left the bedroom and headed for the bathroom, thankful that Aizawa left the door open so I could tell which room was the bathroom. Just as he said there would be, there were brand-new hairbrushes and toothbrushes under the sink. The only thing that struck me as odd was the amount of spare toiletries he had in his bathroom. Everything from hairbrushes, toothbrushes, toothpaste and even pads and tampons were under his sink in massive quantities. He even had pads and tampons with various absorbency and sizes. But Aizawa definitely said he lived alone.
