(Y/N's POV)
It was now 6:45 in the morning and I was down by the lack, where only a few trees hovered over the waters with their branches stretched out.
"Lockett? You awake?" I peered inside one of the tree's burrows, where minutes later, Lockett emerges. He yawned with a cute little squeak, stretching his little arms and legs out.
I guess I accidentally woke him up.
Lockett made the choice to sleep here rather than in the room since it was cozier and warmer. Even though he often stays in my pocket, another factor is still at play; he was still shy around people.
"Were you still sleeping?" I softly asked as he replied with a slow "peep." I smiled apologetically. "Sorry about that, I just wanted to come and check up on you to see how you were doing out here."
Lockett then gives me a slight nod along with another few "peeps" while gesturing his little arms.
"What? You argued with an owl about how you took its spot, but you both later came to an agreement, as well as becoming friends?" I looked at him in shock.
"Peep!" I couldn't help but laugh at such news.
"So? Where's this 'friend' of yours you recently made?" A head then emerges out of the hole as soon as I ask, almost sending me reeling back by its abrupt appearance. It was that very owl he had just mentioned.
"Ah, hi, I'm Y/N." I awkwardly greeted it with a slight wave. I recognized it as a 'Eurasian Eagle' owl, one of the many largest amongst its species.
His large orange eyes looked me up and down, giving me the impression that he was judging and figuring out whether or not I was an enemy or foe. It then looks towards Lockett with a deep "hoot" response. Lockett replies to it with a few "peeps," before it flew over to one of the nearby branches to perch upon.
"Does that mean I'm good?" I turned to look at Lockett as he responded with a cheerful "peep". "Also, I brought some snacks for you, seeing as how I forgot to bring them last time I was here." I took out a small, wrapped cloth from my satchel and placed it into the burrow. Lockett opens the cloth and beamingly "peeps" to me as he examines the dried insects, I had given him.
"By the way, does he have a name as well?" I turned to face the owl as he casts a glance my way.
"Peep, peep."
"I suppose not. Then would it be okay if I gave you one?" I asked the owl. He gives me a heartfelt "hoot," tilts his head to the sides, then gives me a nod. "Ok then, hmm, how about Alistar?" He then expresses his approval by flapping his wings repeatedly. "Well then, Alistar, it's a pleasure to meet you." He returned my warm greeting by bowing his head with a happy "hoot" at the end.
I then turned my head to the sky, where the sun was gradually emerging from behind the trees and into the clouds, giving me an indication that breakfast would soon start.
"I should get going now. Next time, I'll surely bring something for you too as well Alistar." Alistar "hoots" joyfully. I waved both goodbye and headed off to the castle.
As I reached the Great Hall, students were still entering through, indicating me that breakfast had only just started.
Inside the hall, I noticed Eli was already seated down and chatting with the other Slytherins at the table.
"Morning Y/N." I turned to my side and saw my brother with drowsy eyes, along with a yawning Ron.
"Morning you guys, still not waking up, are you?" I laughed at their not-tidy appearance. "Also, your glasses are on the wrong way Harry." My brother realizes and quickly fixes it.
