Chapter 9

Padding sounds from behind me, getting closer with every step. Cole stops beside me, watching me carefully. I lost it. I don't ever lose it, I've learnt what losing control costs. I stand, slowly following Cole back to the pack house. I try to ignore the pain in my leg, but still having a small limp. When we get back, the house is dead, everyone home and tucked into bed. We enter through the open kitchen door. Cole shifts, closing and locking the door. After, I follow him upstairs and to his room. I head to my draws and pull out a pair of shorts and vest. Pacing towards the bathroom, I shift and close the door. I pull the clothes on, avoiding touching my sore arm. Glancing at it, the skin is still loose, small drops of blood escaping. The jagged skin is tender, and bright red, probably meaning it's infected. Sighing, I leave the bathroom, spotting Cole sitting on the bed with a first aid kit. I sit next to him. He takes my hand gently, stretching the arm. I cringe as it pulls the skin, but don't say anything. He grabs the antiseptic bottle, unscrewing the lid and glancing at me nervously. Before either of us say anything he dumps the bottles contents over my arm. I hiss at the burning, gritting my teeth. After, he gently wraps the bandages around my arm, securing the skin. Once finished, he sits there, just watching me. He rests his hand on my cheek, caressing my face gently. I close my eyes at his touch, enjoying something so soft. After a moment, I pull away and and curl up in bed under the covers. He moves away from me after a minute, turning the light off, he doesn't leave the room, but he doesn't come back to the bed either. I let my tears fall, the stress of the night catching up to me. I need to get the wolf, to stop him, what will he do if he kills me? Will he calm down? Or will he continue his rampage, directing it at some other poor wolf. A wolf that won't have as much experience in dealing with him the way I have.

My head pounds gently, waking me from my peaceful, dreamless sleep. Dragging my eyes open, I glare at the bright light streaming through the window. I stretch out, listening as my joints pop from sleeping in the same position all night. I sit up, glancing around. The sofa is ruffled up, but other than that, there's no sign that anyone's been in here. I climb out of bed and change into a pair of jeans and a vest, then pull on my trainers. I pull my hair into a loose plait and head for the door. Peeking out, no one is in the hallway. I make my way slowly downstairs, heading into the kitchen. Cole looks up at me as I come in, but glances back down at his food quickly. "Morning, Ria, did you sleep well?" Kayla asks, smiling at me from her seat. I pull a seat out and sit next to her.

"Yeah, thanks, you?" I ask, William looks between Cole and me, but doesn't say anything.

"I did! How's your arm doing? Cole said it looked pretty gruesome when he cleaned it out last night" she glances at my arm and Cole as she talks.

"It's ok, I think" I mumble, shrugging my shoulders.

"Someone, please, kill whoever's drumming on my head" Chris pleads, falling into the kitchen and into a seat next to me. He lays his head on the table, mumbling something else.

"Chris! Did you perhaps drink just a tad too much last night?!" Kayla asks, well, shouts. I can't help but giggle as Chris covers his head.

"Kayla, you're the spawn of the devil" he groans. Kayla laughs, leaning into William.

"You don't think I'm the devils daughter, do you?" she asks, glancing up at William with puppy dog eyes.

"Of course not" he states, hugging her closer.

"See, I'm not, anyway, I was thinking after breakfast, we could all go for a run, ya know, check the perimeter and stuff, and it'd be good to stretch our legs a bit" she states, bouncing excitedly. I can't help but smile at her, she's so, full of energy. I dread the thought of her drinking energy drinks, it just can't be good.
