Y/N pov:

As I walk into school I am greeted with Hunter, and he starts talking about how hard it will be to convince Dean Swanson to let us play in the battle of the bands. Next thing I know Hunter is speed walking into Dean Swanson's office, I follow closely behind.

"Hunter, I am busy if you would like to wait until I am done with the Merinos-" Dean Swanson starts but is cut off by Hunter.

"I demand you allow us to compete in battle of the bands," Hunter states heroically.

"Okay,"

"Not letting us play just because we're a post-death metal band would be a complete violation of our First Amendment rights,"

"Your First Amendment rights as a minor are unclear, but I agree it would be wrong to exclude you,"

"So why didn't anyone tell us about it?"

"Well, I wasn't aware you had a death metal-" Dean Swanson starts

"Post-death," one of the Merinos corrects her.

"Thank you, Frank. A post-death metal band. You are welcome to participate as long as your performance is appropriate," Swanson says as she hands Hunter the sign-up sheet. We both rush out of her office and then spot Kevin standing by the lockers awkwardly.

"I had to work on her, but we're in," Hunter says happily.

"Awesome," Kevin says and then the two do their handshake. "So, I guess we should start looking for a bass player?"

"Oh, I forgot, we already have one. Y/N over here says she can play bass," Hunter says proudly.

"Wait, really," Asks Kevin. I just nod.

TIME SKIP TO THE LIBARY.

"Battle of the bands is where it starts for people. Check it out, Troy Nix" Hunter grabs a yearbook and shows a picture of my dad in high school.

"Jesus," Kevin says shocked.

"Guitarist and singer of Kiloton, Battle of the bands winners, 1996. They were gods," Hunter says. I decide to keep the whole who my dad is thing a secret for now. "No one in this school liked heavy music same as now, but Kiloton terrorized their way straight to victory. By 1997 they were considered the greatest unsigned metal band in the country. They could have been up there with Metallica or Pantera, but they broke up. I think drinking was involved. But that's not going to happen to us, this is our moment heavy metal music is going to rise up. We win battle of the bands, parlay that win into gigs, and then those gigs score us a deal." Hunter says ending his rant.

"What kind of deal?" asks Kevin. Hunter is about to answer but the school bell rings.

"Cocks, I've got to get all the way to C Hall but meet me after school we have work to do," Hunter says.

"Hail Satan," says a kid I have never seen before.

"Sup, Robbie," Hunter says as we pass the kid I now know as Robbie.

TIME SKIP TO AFTER SCHOOL.

As we get into Hunter's car, I can hear Iron Maiden blasting from the speakers.

"Hop in,"

"Where are we going?" asks Kevin. Hunter responds by holding up an American Express card. We all walk into guitar center and start looking at band equipment. Finally, we find some huge drums.

"These Drums are going to be huge for us," Hunter says excitedly. Hunter's right the drums are huge. We or more like Hunter's dad buy the drums and pack them into Hunter's car. As soon as we get all the drums into Kevin's house, Hunter and I drive back to my place.

"I was wondering if I could hear you play, just to make sure," Hunter asks.

"Oh, yeah I totally get that," I respond back. The drive home is quick. Hunter pulls up to my driveway, and we both get out. I unlock the front door and step inside. Hunter and I then go up to my room and I start to set up my equipment.

"I like your posters," Hunter says casually. I mutter a thanks and start to play.

"Is for whom the bell tolls, okay?" I ask him.

"Oh, yeah. That's perfect," He responds. I start to play the intro and I pretty much nail it. "You're in," he responds memorized.
