This is going to be a hot take
I think we all know the infamous Third Union ship. I mean, it probably is one of the most popular ships in the fandom. I know you have all seen people criticize ship. Yet, why do people ship this? I believe we shouldn't be shipping two nations that have done horrible things to people.
Well, I think we all know that the Third Reich killed a lot of innocent people in camps such as Auschwitz, Treblinka, Stutthof, etc. They committed war crimes and atrocities, so why do we ship this? Why do we make the Third Reich seem like a feisty German guy? Why do we ship him to another country that also committed war crimes? These are questions I can't answer. I just don't understand how you can romanticize a country like this.
The USSR wasn't any better. It was widely known for it's brutality and stupidly cruel leaders. For example, Stalin literally sent someone to the Gulag because they were the first one to stop clapping at one of his speeches. When they were there, they were forced to work extremely long hours in horrible conditions. Basically like the German concentration camps. Not to mention the horrible effects of communism, which clearly has made it's mark on Eastern Europe.
I can't imagine how people who have suffered from the horrible acts of these nations must feel when they see these nations presented in a "quirky" or "cute" way, and I can't imagine how the soldiers who fought on the WW2 Eastern Front must feel about this ship. Like, you see the flag, which could have meant death if you saw it near you, slapped on to a person's face and shipped with your country. Yeah. I know. It's insulting.
To reduce war criminals down to a few love birds is disgusting. I genuinely do not understand how people can write these stories without feeling guilty. Like, I can't even open a Third Union story for a few seconds without my soul jumping out of my body.
