Zane prayed on his knees by the steps and infront of the giant statue of Irene. He mumbled and vented. He thanked and worshiped. Even recited verses from memory. All while the events of the breakfast and the gala flashed through his brain.
How could he fix this mess? He asked Irene for wisdom. Hoping an idea would soon appear.
"Zane." Hayden said softy, but the chapel was so eerily silent it startled him.
"AH! Oh, hey Hayden." Zane nodded in greeting. Hayden did the same. Hayden struggled but got to his knees next to Zane. Putting the bible of Irene infront of him with great care.
"How are you...?" Hayden asked concerned.
Zane flickered and pulled the mask a bit upwards. Hayden didn't know about his face...
"Thats alright, son." Hayden reasured and put a hand on his back. Zane looked at him. Hayden was the only one he could show his emotions to without being ridiculed. "Im just glad your safe." Hayden smiled.
Zane looked down. "I'm afraid i might have a confession father."
"Well what is it? You are always safe here." Hayden said. He avoided eye contact to make him more comfortable.
Zane explained the situation with Cadenza and Garroth. And how he thought it was his fault.
"King Garte would have meddled with that family regardless of if Garroth or you talked to them." Hayden stated.
Zane looked at him surprised.
"He's no saint. They were part of one of the poorest villages in the land. He planned this beforehand. Dont let his tricks cover his signs of misfortune." Hayden stated.
Zane thought about it, he was right. Garte must have planned it beforehand. How did something so simple and obvious like that slip him? Zane beat himself up over it and looked down angrily.
"Heard you and Garroth were training the other day." Hayden said changing the subject. "You two finally become decent with each other?"
"No. Maybe for a day but after this with Cadenza he blames me because i was with garte when he made the decision. So, nothing really changed." Zane stated.
"I see.... wheres Garroth now?"
"Probably in his and vlads secret hideout in the village. It's a house attic near the outskirts of the village. Right against the kingdoms walls. They think i dont know about it." Zane said in a jealous manner.
Hayden stayed quiet and listened. After a moment zane vented his pent up emotions.
"They always leave me out on things. Even little things like hanging out in the library. They always leave. They never spend time with me and never let me try to spend time with them. And i cant help but think its not just because of the whole 'cursed' thing. I think they just straight up hate me and i don't know how to fix it... like this horrible mess..." zane vented as his shoulders dropped.
Zane looked up at Hayden. "Is there just something wrong with me? Something im not seeing that clearly everyone else does?"
Hayden frowed his brows in concern. "No! There's nothing wrong with you Zane. You're perfect just the way you are. They just cant see what i see yet."
"Why not?" Zane asked. "Why cant they see what you can? Including me?"
"Because you haven't taken things in your own hands yet." Hayden started to get up and zane quickly got up to help him.
"What do you mean?" Zane asked.
Hayden put and arm around his shoulder with the Bible of irene under his arm. "Come. I have something i should have shown you a long time ago."
