A few days later after trying to ignore Dave at work, (I didn't need to deal with that awkward situation), I finally called him. He voice sounded drawled and slurred. He sounded drunk.

"Hello?" I said tentatively through the phone.

"Hey there, is this be Annie Bell?" he said. I tightened my lips. I hated being called Annie.

        "Annabel," I said firmly.

"Sawry," he said. I'm assuming he meant "sorry."

       "Are you drunk?"

"Are you a cow?" he asked playfully.

"How many have you had?" I pressed.

"I lost count after five." I placed my head in my hands. So much for second chances. I counted backwards from ten, trying to keep myself cool. Three, two, one.

"Ok, so I figured we could go some place tonight," I suggested.

"Oh yeah? I know there's going to be this party somewhere."

"Really?" I asked, starting to get excited.

"Great, I'll pick you up at nine. Be ready by then," he quickly said. I didn't even have time to say goodbye before he hung up. A part of me was worried. But I decided to push that down and just go with it.

Nine o'clock came by all too quickly. I decided on a cropped red shirt and shorts. I only hoped that it would be able to cover up the dying fear that was bubbling inside of me. I heard his car horn honking at me around 9:05. What a gentleman. I gulped down the pressure rising in my throat, and then I realized he was drunk. Drunk driving. I was not going to be that idiotic. Once I couldn't take the excessive honking any longer, I ran out of my apartment down to where he was. He stood there, next to a sleek black Mustang convertible. I rolled my eyes and walked towards him.

"I'm driving," I demanded. Less than sober, he couldn't even argue with me. I slid into the smooth leather driver's seat.

"Where is it at?" I asked.

"2047 N. 145th Lane," he mumbled, his breath heavy of alcohol. I nearly gagged. Instead of offering him a breathmint, I sped away. The faster we got there, the faster we could leave.
