Rafe was in the middle of getting ready when Ward walked into his room.
"Where are you going?"

He unbuttoned the first two buttons of his shirt and sprayed himself in cheap deodorant before turning to his father, surprised that he even took an interest in where he was heading.

"Chapel Hill, looking at some college with Erin. Rose told me to go a few days ago."

Ward nodded and picked up an empty rum bottle from Rafes drawer, slowly turning it in his hands.

"Varnham?"

"Yes, Varnham."

He put the bottle back on the drawer, not paying too much attention to how it displayed his sons despair.

"That girl's no good. And I told you to lay low for a while."

Rafe looked at his dad, furrowing his brows.
"How am I not laying low by looking at a college?"

He knew Erin and him would do anything but look at this college. Maybe he'd try to dick her down on that stupid ferry.

Ward cleared his throat, took another analyzing look around his room. "Yeah. Just... stay out of trouble, okay?"

"Yes Sir"

"You sure you wanna go there with Rafe?", Jamie asked, standing in the corner of Erins room.

"Yeah", Erin mumbled while closing the zipper of her plaid skirt. "Why?"

"What if something bad happens again?"

Erin sighed and turned to her younger brother who was eying her nervously. "Nothing's gonna happen", she reassured him and smiled softly.

"Are you gonna do any drugs?"

"No? We're just looking at a college."

Jamie plopped down on Erins bed. "I thought you didn't even wanna go to college."

"Mom doesn't know that yet. And I'm happy to get away from here for a while."

The brown-haired boy raised his eyebrows.
"Does Kelce know you're going with Rafe?"

"Stop being so fucking obnoxious, Jamie!"

A smile started forming on the boys lips.
"Does he know you're seeing him?"

Erins head snapped around, her eyebrows furrowing angrily.

"I'm not seeing Rafe, and- Jesus. What do you want?!", she asked, noticing her brothers cocky smile.

"50 bucks"

Erin groaned, grabbed her purse and pulled out a few dollar notes, throwing them on the floor to Jamies feet.

"Pleasure doing business with ya"

Erin hurried on the ferry. She was late, the boat about to take off when she got there.

When she made it on the deck, she looked around for Rafe and found him sitting on one of the abandoned benches.

During the week at this time the ferries weren't busy at all, they almost had the deck to themselves.

Erin sat down next to Rafe, he turned to look at her.
"I was starting to think you're standing me up"

She shrugged. "I was considering it."

"Really?"

Erin nodded and pulled out a pack of smokes.
"Really.", she lied, putting a cigarette between her lips.
