~Michael ~

As I slowly walked closer and closer to the dark house with just a few lighted candles my heart started to beat faster, it was like walking to a black pit in the forest, so curious as to what awaits inside but also fearful for what may be lurking inside. I was filled with that curiosity but also scared, what was my mom crying about and how come she didn't tell us he was coming back home today? As I slowly approach them, a panel in the floor creaked, I could tell my dad heard me, his hands stopped, and he started to breathe harder... whatever my mom was crying about, I don't think he wanted me to know about it. My mom sniffled and wiped the tears from her eyes, my dad let go of my mom, she turned around, took a breath, backed away from my dad, and said to me "Michael... say Hi to daddy..." My dad opened his arms wide as my mom shed a tear, "Hey buddy, look at you! you're so big!" I looked down and saw a large piece of metal around his leg "Daddy... What's that?" As I pointed at the metal thing blocking the front of my dad's leg, my mom tried so hard to hold in her feelings, but they were too overwhelming, she started crying and ran to her bedroom, my dad watched her as she ran up the stairs, head down and covering her face with her morning robe. She went quiet when she saw3 beings standing at the top of the carpeted stairs, "excuse me children" was all that left her mouth... nothing more, nothing less. One out of the 2 beings walked down the stairs and just stood there, Abby went to follow my mom supposedly to comfort her just as she comforted her the day before, coming back home from school. As my much older brother and one of my younger sisters stood there at the end of the stairs, I looked into their eyes... My sister looked confused and worried looking at my dad kneeling towards me, my brother, Sam 17, had a disappointed look in his eyes, but they also looked... angry, and.... dare I say hateful. My dad looked at his children who weren't very joyful about his arrival "hey guys I... I know it's different but... just come here at least give your old man a hug" Shelly walked up to my dad and gave him a heart-warming hug, I smiled as my heart felt a little better after feeling the confusion and pain I felt seeing my mom let out tears. I looked over at Sam, he just stood there with his back against the wall, crossing his arms, not even saying a word. My dad kissed Shelly and looked up at my brother, and let out a small sigh. "Some things happened when daddy was gone..." "oh really couldn't tell" Sam will do this when he's mad, and letting out those words, I could tell it made my dad just a little more pissed off with Sam's attitude. "Yes, some things did happen, Sam," My dad said in a warning voice "Some bad people hurt daddy and, things happened" He sat down and reached his hand for his calf, he lifted it and laid it down for us to see, there was no metal frame blocking his leg... it was, his leg. I heard someone walking down to us "Daddy have a booboo?" Abby said while holding my mom's hand and walking down the stairs. "Yes, daddy has a booboo baby" Abby walked up to my dad and dragged my mom along with her, my dad opened his arms only to see Abby kneel down and kiss the cold metal leg. What Abby did made everyone feel just a little better.
