Five days later

Over the last week Selene and Loki had communicated via phone every day, several times a day. At first when he had tried to contact her he had sent a text or rather he'd had help to send a text. Smiling at the memorable message Selene chuckles to herself. It was overly formal, making her laugh while finding it incredibly sweet. Taking pity on the not so tech savvy god she called him to speak in a way he was more familiar with. In the time since they met last Saturday they'd only been able to meet up again in person the next day where she showed him how to properly work his phone. Since then Loki would send her text messages throughout the day while she was at work or school. Asking questions about things on 'Midgard' that he didn't understand or telling her observations about his life back on Asgard in comparison to here on earth. Every single message had made her smile or laugh or sigh in disbelief. That she, a nobody, was chatting so casually to Loki the god of Mischief about such mundane things like how he was obsessed with honey and lavender shortbread cookies.

Then there were the deep conversations they had late at night where he told her all about his life growing up. Mostly they focused on his adoptive parents and his brother. All about the good times and then reluctantly the bad. How he hadn't known who he truly was until only recently and the deep betrayal he felt knowing he had been taken while being discarded by his biological parents as an infant. She could sympathize to a degree in the ways of the pressures to be someone she wasn't deep down at her core. But Selene had to be very careful and guarded in how she spoke about her own childhood and parents. And that was okay, because Loki never once forced her to share what she wasn't ready to. When it came time for her to share the important bits about herself and she would hesitate. Thankfully he would simply change the subject allowing her to breathe out a sigh of relief. So instead she told Loki all of the little things about herself that were as important as they were inconsequential.

Her real self. Now that was a complicated subject. Nyx. The girl who was one of the two heirs of the Crimson Sparrows. She happened to be the one who ran away after being unable to morally continue on the legacy of their father. The legacy of infiltrating and spying for money and power. The legacy of killing people who were both corrupt and innocent all for the same reasons. It was a legacy that she never wanted and yet it was hers all the same. But this life. Selene Moineau's life was one where she could see herself living for the rest of her days. One where she was simply a mild mannered lab technician who was working towards adding to the degrees she'd earned in engineering and biomedical engineering by going back to college here at NYU for biomechanics.

It had been a piece of cake to change the records from where she originally went to school at MIT from her then cover to her new alias. It was the one time her father had indulged her whims. But in exchange to be able to go to college like she wanted she had to do as he asked and embrace becoming a fully invested Sparrow. It had gutted her to do it, but it was her dream to go to MIT. To one day use her degrees to help people. Not to spy on, hurt or kill them like her father wanted.

In speaking to Loki over this last week she had learned more about herself. She learned that she wanted this new life to work out more than ever. She wanted to explore her new friendship with the Asgardian. She wanted to see if their flirty chats could ever become more. She desperately wanted it to become more. Especially with someone who understood her darker side seeing as he had a dark side similar to her own. Loki Odinson, or rather Laufeyson, had a legacy of his own that he was ashamed of. The day he was born he became the heir to the king of the frost giants of the Jotunheim.

Unwanted because of his massively smaller stature in comparison to other frost giants. Laufey's thinking in the history of his peoples legacy was how could this small child grow up to rule a people seen as larger than life? A people whose leader used his size as proof to lead. Rejected by his own father and mother. Then raised under a spell to hide his true form while his true identity and heritage was hidden by a woman who loved him as if she'd birthed him herself and a man who had wanted to use him for his own selfish need for peace and image. He was hurt. Because of that hurt Loki had lashed out at everyone who loved and cared for him. He knew they did and yet for once he had acted irrationally. Ever the strategist, he used the events in the ensuing days to get his revenge on Laufey. His hope had been that he would show his adopted parents and people his loyalty to Asgard. That he would be a good and benevolent king one day.
