We sprint towards the way Melancholy came running from, falling into our usual flanking method. Leona takes the lead, with Bloodrose and Reece following behind her at either side. Ragamuffin and I follow  behind either of them, Ragamuffin taking the right with Bloodrose, and myself following Reece.

Leona shouts that she can see the intruders on our borders, twenty-five of them, decked completely in weapons and protective gear. They look confident that they can efficiently take down whatever’s coming to attack them.

“Well, not for long” Smirks Reece, Shark’s teeth becoming glaring apparent with anticipation.

Out of the Corner of my eye, I spot ragamuffin and whisper a message to him that I know his keen ears will hear.

“Raga, we need to split off. Go behind them. Manoeuvre Eight.”

Ragamuffin and I both sharply stop running and break off from the team to run straight past them, pushing further and further ahead until we’ve not only gone past the team, but straight behind the intruders, effectively trapping the City’s Protectors.

With each of us taking a side, we take strategic places to affect the ambush. Raga takes the low shrubbery, his lean body hidden well amongst the shrubs and low-lying trees.

I, on the other hand, take to the trees, galloping up the tallest and closest tree to myself which offers the most cover. Easily I can blend into the tree, leaning close to the trunk, branches and moving silently, slinking until I’m slightly to the left of the Protectors and at the complete opposite side to Ragamuffin.  When the Team comes into focus at the forefront of the Protectors, Raga and I will be ready for them.

Leona suddenly bursts through the foliage, rapier in hand with her fangs and claws blaring. In the morning sunlight she looks blinding, a combination of dazzling golds making her look like blinding.

Like the lion she is, she takes the first strike against the armoured men, striking the oncoming man with her rapier across the neck. Leona is brutally beautiful, taking the man’s head as if it wasn’t even attached to his neck to being with. As she moves on the the next man with her bloodied rapier, Reece and Bloodrose emerge out of the trees. Reece has taken out his two flick knives, handling them with ease as he guides his knives through the two men that are coming towards him. He tears out their throats, coaxing blood out of them in rivers.

Bloodrose suddenly appears, lodging arrow upon arrow deep within three men who were sneaking up behind Leona and Reece. Rose sticks to the outside, lodging arrows into whoever gets too close to anyone who’s not able to defend themselves. Given the relationship between herself and Reece, she tends to try and protect him more, although her loyalties to the rest of us have never waived.

The Protectors have obviously realized their impending doom and have started to back off, moving backwards in an attempt to retreat back into the City.

That’s when Raga and I make our move. Ragamuffin springs out of the cover of the shrubbery, unleashing his two throwing axes upon whoever’s close to him. Taking down three men with the axes that line the inside of his jacket. He’s been splattered with the blood of the dead men, but he moves forward, removing the axes from the men’s backs and closes in on the remaining group of retreating men.

Out of the corner of my eye, I can see four men sneaking hurriedly past the Team and heading towards the City’s Border, straight towards the gates that will take them back into the City.

My body moves before I even realize I’m doing so. Suddenly I’m in front of them. I have knives within my hands quickly and knives within two of the men’s throats quicker still.

My arms move automatically, reaching and seizing my large broadsword and smaller dagger. These bastards don’t deserve one of my best techniques, but I can’t risk these men getting back into the City and calling for more Protectors to scout the area.

As the first man comes towards me, I block the bullets coming towards me with my large blade. Vengeance, my broadsword, goes straight through the man’s chest, puncturing his heart utterly, ensuring this scum will never get up again. While The City has advanced medical provisions, bringing someone back from the dead is still unheard of. A victorious smile graces my face as I pull Vengeance out of the dead man’s body. Swiftly turning, I dodge the oncoming blow from the last man’s gun; block the bullet with my sword. My reflexes are strong in the midst of a battle. The man fires bullets at me, rapidly coming towards me with what feels like increased velocity. With every bullet I dodge, I gain closer and closer towards the man. I gain ground quickly, until I’m right in front of him.

With a hasty movement of my blade, The Man’s gun is sliced in half. The barrel falls to the ground as a look of panic washes over his partially covered face.

But he needn’t worry.

I won’t kill an unarmed man.

At least, not by blade.

The man falls to the ground as blood pulsates out of his chest.

Leona’s prideful voice sounds out of nowhere.

“So you got them before they got back did you?” As I look up, I observe Leona as she walks past the two men I threw blades out before, plucking them out of the men’s throats as she walks past. Wiping the blades clean against the fallen men’s jackets, she walks up to me. Her clothes are drenched in blood, and her golden skin has rivulets of blood running down her arms, draining at her nails and falling on the ground, leaving a trail as she walks towards me.

Looking at the man, she looks up at me with a sort of...hesitation. Like she’s a little scared and proud of me. Her expression is a strange mix of the two.  It’s not long until Reece, Bloodrose (holding hands and looking a little in love like most pair bonds) and Ragamuffin come into the clearing that I just fought in.

“Oi Whiskers!” Reece’s deep timbre chuckles as he and Bloodrose near me “you left the poor bugger nearly as heartbroken as they left you!”

They both laugh at the man’s heart within my right hand which feels as though it is still faintly beating.

“Ah, Felixia? You better come over here.” Ragamuffin’s anxious voice alerts me to his presences. While he’s not easily ignorable, when he wants to, Raga can startle me with his sudden stillness.

“What is it Ragamuffin? Anything important?” Asks Rose. She doesn’t really speak unless it’s vital, but even then it’s a rare occurrence to hear her voice. In my opinion, this makes her perfect to Reece. She doesn’t talk and he never shuts up.

“Felixia!”  I’m snapped out of my musing but a very panicked Leona.  This worries me. Leona never panics. She’s almost the epitome of calm. I hurriedly make my way over to the Team which has gathered around the fallen Protector, whose face protector they’ve removed. Peering towards the protector I suddenly see why they are so panicked.

This man is a dead ringer for Blaze.

Right down to his Brand.

Deafness seems to over take me as I drop the heart onto the ground.
