Thursday comes with a call from Eleazar at seven in the morning. Cassius is dirtied in all different colors of paint, some dried, but most of it fresh and there's a brush in his mouth as he tries to get the paint off his hands with a rag to grab his phone that's vibrating in his back pocket.

Once he's sure his phone won't get stained with the acrylic paint, he takes the brush out of his mouth and answers, "Hello, Eleazar."

"Cassius," Eleazar's voice comes through the speaker, "How are you and Amelia doing with the Cullens?"

"Great," Cassius answers, adding fine details to the deer on his canvas. "There's been no problems and we all seem to get along just fine. How is it at home?"

"Come on, Cassius, tell me more. What do you and Amelia think of Alice and Jasper? You haven't met them until now, have you?" Eleazar asks, sounding like he's walking outside, the crunch of snow a great indicator. "And home is fine. Irina and Laurent haven't come back in some time, but—"

"Is that low life still struggling with our diet?" Cassius interrupts, feeling himself grow angry at the mention of Irina's new mate.

"Laurent," Eleazar emphasizes. "And give him some credit. At least, Irina has the patience to teach him and he's willing to try our way of life."

"Yeah," Cassius says without meaning, pouring more paint onto his pallet. "And to answer your questions, life in Ithaca has been more lively with the new additions. I don't know what Amelia thinks of Jasper and Alice, but I enjoy their company, more Jasper than Alice—"

"—too happy for you?" Eleazar asks with a laugh.

"Not exactly." Cassius says, grabbing a thinner brush for the deer's fur. "I like both of them just fine, and besides, Alice and Amelia get on like a house on fire."

Just yesterday Alice and Amelia had been up in Amelia's office all day cooking up some ideas for Amelia to design. Not once did they leave the room, and Cassius remembers hearing all their giggling and the scribbling of pencils on a sketchbook that's probably filled to the brim now because of them.

"That sounds about right," Eleazar says. "Carmen will be pleased to know she was right."

"She guessed they'd be good friends?"

Eleazar chuckles, "Something like that. How's Edward? Carlisle had been telling me of a girl he'd met. His mate, I'm guessing, but after they moved up to Ithaca with you and Amelia it's been silent on his end."
