Zainab

Jannat barely sat down when Mummy held her hair and pulled her to sit down. She did so. Groaning and complaining at the pain.

"When will you ever listen to me, huh? Tillim never complained when I tried to oil her head. Why did you turn out this way?" She scolded with a stern tone, ready to oil her youngest daughter's head who always hated oiling her head.

Jannat had beautiful hair. Long, shiny, and super thick. Her friends envied her and even told her to take off her hijab as she is young and needed to show that beauty. My sister knew better than that.

She'd rather lose all her beauty than show it off.

Jannat might be the mischievous kid amongst all of the siblings but she was a serious adult deep inside. She had her ground held tight.

Her biggest inspiration was Tillim after the Prophet (SAW). She looked upon her as someone she wanted to be in the future. I feel like she'd be better than Tillim apu in the future. She was ambitious and had her priorities straight just like all of us-- all of them. Not me.

I didn't know what I was doing, what I had, and what I had to do with what I had. Like Jannat, my inspiration was also Tillim apu but deep inside I was somewhat scared, insecure, and not brave enough to do anything. But still, I appreciated my blessings.

My family, my crazy sister was now complaining with Mummy at the moment as Mummy held her hair tight.

"Arreehh, Betha lage!" She shouted.

"Ektu Betha lagei. Beauty is pain." Evani khala said, sipping her tea. She was the one who gave Mummy the idea of oiling the kid's hair.

Jannat had a reason to dislike her, I agree.

I chuckled, "Ektu sthir thak na."

"Tumi to ar kothai boilo na. You should be protecting me from this." She complained yet again.

"Tui emon hoisos ken?" Mummy scolded. "Amar kotha kono din shunos tui? Jibone to unnoti korte parbi na ma babar kotha na shunle."

Jannat laughed, "A wise man once said, "কনিষ্ঠ সন্তান সর্বদা বিচুটে হয়।" She stated while receiving a smack from Mummy.

"Beshi kotha."

I laughed.

"Jannat apu, when is Tillim apu coming?" She asked.

I looked at her. "I don't know, probably today. Her flight lands today." I said remembering what she told me.

She smiled.

"Is Rabet coming as well?" Rukhsar Khala asked, enthusiasm on her face.

I nodded. Was he coming? I don't know. I do not want her to inquire me about him so early in the morning.

"Mummy? Why did they go anyway? Nobody told me." I asked.

Mummy looked a bit hesitant before she replied that they went for some business purpose and that we don't need to stick our noses in. Wow. That comment wasn't directed at me. It was clear.
