John Simons was probably born in Launton - the family was already well-established in the village, with the earliest known reference being in the 1665 Hearth Tax records, which showed two Simons/Symons men residing in Launton. These men were more than likely ancestors or relatives of John.
Sadly, due to many parish records being destroyed in a fire during the mid-18th century, it is impossible to go back any further on this line.
John - a labourer - married Alice (maiden name unknown) circa 1723, and they had the following children, all born in Launton:
1. William, bapt. 1724.
2. Mary, bapt. 1725.
3. John, bapt. 1727.
4. Richard, bapt. 1728.
5. Alice, bapt. 1731.
6. Joseph, bapt. 1732.
7. George, bapt. 1734.
8. Thomas, bapt. 1736.
9. George, bapt. 1739.
10. James, bapt. 1741.John was buried in Launton on 7th April 1768, followed by his widow Alice in 1778.
