Reader x Jeon Jungkook (short story)

(Jungkook's P.O.V.)

I'm a volunteer to help cancer patients here in Korea. I admire them, so much. They give me the passion to sing and perform. They're my inspiration. If only I could find a cure for them. But all I can do is make them happy before they go. That's why I'm here right now.

I went in the hospital and skipped to the cancer patients' room. Most of them were children. "Hello kids!" I greeted them with a big smile. "Kookie oppa/hyung!" they squealed and jumped of their beds. "What do you want to play today?" I asked, trying to lift up their spirits. "Tag! You're it!" the youngest poked me and ran away. "But I don't wanna' play tag!!!" I protested. They stopped running, went silent and stared at me. I gave them a big grin and ran to one of them and poked her cute and fluffy cheek. "Tag, you're it!!" We started running all around the room, tagging one another. It's heart-warming, seeing these children having fun because of me.

"That's enough, kids. Let's tuck you back in, okay?" The nurse came in and put them back to their beds. "Thanks for visiting again, Jungkook. They haven't been this energetic since the last time you played with them." She laughed as she went over to the furthest and only bed at the end of the room. There was a girl around my age curled up in a ball with a panda plushie in her arms. How come I've never noticed her before? "Who is she?"I asked the nurse. "Yu Jandee." she responded. The girl seems dead because she's just lying still, staring out the window. "She has stage 4 cancer and she's been living here since her parents abandoned her. No one has ever heard her talk since then. Sadly, her life's due in a month if she doesn't get treated." the nurse whispered as she stroked the patient's long brown hair.

She'll die in a month, and she has never even experienced how it feels to be happy! I have to do something about this. Maybe take her to meet V hyung? Nah, hyung's too childish and alien-like. Jandee might even catch his alien virus. "Can I take her out to have fun?" I pleaded. "Sure, if you can make her. She's very unresponsive." she said and left us. I poked the girl's cheek. "Hey, Jandee? Do you want to play? Come on!" I cheerfully said, but she ignored me. I don't want to fake being happy anymore. I can't take seeing her like this. "You know, being miserable can't cure cancer." Finally, she looked at me. "Neither does playing." she said with a weak, ragged voice. At least I got her to talk to me. "Only a miracle can keep me alive at this point." she continued, shedding some tears. "You have to stop thinking like that. I want you to smile, laugh, have fun, and enjoy your remaining life. Don't you?" she took her eyes away from me and looked back at the window. "I do." she said as she gripped on tighter to her panda.

"Where are you taking me?" She asked as I dragged her arm. "It's almost Christmas, Jandee. More than a month left. You won't make it." I said as I caught a snowflake. "You know what, you're like a snowflake. You're one of nature's most fragile things." I whispered and we sat down next to a frozen lake. "But look what they can do..." I pointed at the snow-covered ground and stared at her innocent and curious face. She didn't seem to understand my metaphor. Her beautiful black eyes just wandered about her surroundings.

I attached skating blades under our boots and pulled her to the ice. "Hey, no! I don't know how to skate!" she squirmed and tried to escape from my grip. "I'll just teach you, then." I held her hand as we walked on the ice. Then slowly progressing, we were sliding, gliding, and now skating. A fast learner, she is.

"How about we race back to our base?" she giggled. "Challenge accepted." I grinned. We started skating slow, then faster. She got there first. Heh, it's my skating boots' fault for not being able to stop gliding.

(Jandee's P.O.V.)

Yeeaaahhh I wooon! I was mentally dancing with joy when I noticed him continue to skate his way to me. He can't seem to stop. He stumbled and he fell on top of me. We were both surprised when our lips met. His kisses were soft and tender. What is this I'm feeling? I never knew my heart could beat this fast. It was a reasonable accident before he cupped my cheeks and started kissing me passionately. I felt myself giving in and following his movements. I feel different. But in a good way, of course. Is this what others call joy? Love? This is a whole new different feeling for me. Well, that was a few seconds a go. Now I can't breathe. I tried to push him away but he was giving me to much pleasure. He broke the kiss himself and we gasped for air. He got off me and helped me get up. "I-I'm sorry. I wasn't able to stop myself." he apologized. "Umm...N-no problem." I held his hand and watched as his face turned red. "Take me somewhere else." I gave him a wide smile.

He took me to the beach. We had a swim in the winter sea, made sand castles, and watched the sunset. "Jandee..." he called."Be honest with me. Did you enjoy today?"he whispered. "Absolutely! This is the first, and maybe the last time, I would feel this happy. If it wasn't for you bringing colour to my life, I would still be curled up on my bed right now." I smiled and even giggled a little. "I told you to stop that! Think positive! You have to survive. Live your life, for me." he cried. I didn't mean to make him cry. I'm just saying what I feel. "Let's just go back." I faked a smile. We walked back to the hospital, my hand in his. We didn't care what his fans thought. We were in our own happy world. And neither of us wanted to leave.

He carried me back to my bed and gave me a snowflake necklace that who-knows-where came from. I tugged his shirt and he leaned down. "Are you leaving for a long time?" I asked. "Well, yes. We have to perform in a lot of shows. And we're surely going to win a lot of trophies!" he proudly said. "I promise to visit you again after." he fake smiled. He knows I'll be gone by then...but why is he still saying that? "Sure. Go to Qingdao, China. Ask the nurse the exact address to be sure. That's where I'll be." I felt a stray tear fall from my eye. "If I do live." I mumbled to myself. He hugged me tightly and kissed my forehead. "You have to. Be strong for me, okay?" He smiled and started to walk away. "Hey, I don't even know your name yet." he stopped and turned to me. "I'm Jeon Jungkook, the Golden Maknae of Bangtan Boys." he gave me a sad grin and continued walking away.

The nurse came in and greeted me. "Hi. How was your day? I saw Jungkook crying as he passed by me earlier. Wha-" I cut her off.

"I've made up my mind. I want to have a therapy. Please. I want to get treated as soon as possible."

(Jungkook's P.O.V.)

It's already been a month. And I've found Jandee's home. Why do I have this weird feeling? I can't tell if it's positive or negative. Oh Jandee, I came here all the way from Korea. That's how much I love you.

*knock knock*

"Is Jandee here, sir?" I asked the man who opened the door. "Who are you?" He asked. "I'm her boyfriend, sir. Jeon Jungkook from Seoul, Korea." I answered. He let me in and even served me tea. "In sorry to say...she hasn't come home. And she will not, according to the doctors." He sniffled.

Is...Is she gone? No...this...this can't be happening. I...I can't take this.

"Don't worry, sonny. She shall forever be in our hearts." he comforted. He patted my back while I cried with my face in my palms. "I'm so sorry, Jandee. I wasn't able to do anything to save you. I NEED U, Jandee." I kept mumbling.

"Jungkook, stop being so hard on yourself. Think positive!" Someone whispered. I looked at the man. His eyes were wide open in astonishment at something behind me. I looked over my back and saw her. "Jandee!!!" I squealed as I hugged her. She looks so different, better, if I may say. Her hair is now in a pixie cut instead of her former brunette locks. Her body seems healthier now, too. And she no longer have those dark circles under her eyes. She's even more beautiful than the first time I laid my eyes on her. "How?" I confusedly asked. She tapped her necklace and smiled at me. "You're my miracle, Jungkook. And I am forever in your debt."

She dropped her luggage and hugged me back, then the man. "I'm home, father! I'm...I'm cured." She giggled. "Um...Jandee....I kinda told him I'm your boyfriend." I shyly said. "Very well, then." She grinned. "Father, he's Jungkook, my boyfriend." She cupped my face and planted a kiss on my cheek. "Thank you for taking care of my daughter, sonny. You're now part of the family." he put out his arms and locked me in a tight hug.
