The next morning is a bit of a blur. I woke and had a shower, when I came out Alice was gone. I brush my hair back into a ponytail after straightening and apply my makeup before walking to my wardrobe and dressing in my uniform.
I pull on black stockings, a green plaid skirt that I wear over my shirt and it goes to just above my knee. A collared white shirt and black tie, with polished black mary-jane shoes and a green blazer. Great. It was gorgeous. I look at myself in the full length mirror on the back of the door before grabbing my satchel and marching down to breakfast.
I turn into the dining room and kitchen at the bottom of the stairs to find a collection of mismatched teenagers. The girls wearing the same uniform as me, but in various ways and the boys with the same blazers and shirts and ties, but grey pants.
The eyes.
Every single girl has a variety of eyes, except many with both colours, blue and green. Like mine. And Katherine's. She smiles at me and I take a seat next to her and she passes me an omelette.
"You aren't vegetarian are you?" She smiles a little and flicks her long braids over her shoulders.
"No, no I'm not," I smile and accept the omelette, starting to eat it. "This is delicious."
"We have probably the best cook on campus," she smiles kindly before eating her toast. "Show me your timetable."
I pull out the piece of paper I found in my desk the night before and hand it to her.
"Awesome, we have the same classes," I put my timetable back in my bag.
"Great, you can show me where everything is," I laugh lightly as I speak.
"I would anyway Olive," she rolls her eyes a little. And that's it. We are definitely going to be great friends.
"Call me Liv," I look up and notice Nathan is sitting opposite me and I smile at him in greeting.
"Good morning Liv." His smile is just as charming as the day before.
"Good morning Nathan."
His white shirtsleeves are rolled up to his elbows neatly and his shirt is tight across his torso. His hair is neat, and his blazer draped over the back of his chair.
"Call me Kat," Katherine speaks up from beside me and snaps me out of staring at Nathan, and I smile at her.
We spend the rest of breakfast in near silence, listening to the conversations of the 12 or so others around us. I see Alice flirting, I think it's flirting, with some girl near the end of the table and I look away.
Breakfast continued with me being introduced to various people by Kat. The others with blue and green eyes were Alison, Victoria, Dylan, Rick, Isaac and Aaron. I smiled and they all returned the smile when they saw my eyes.
And Nathan stared at me the whole time. What is his problem?
I avoid his gaze and focus on the food in front of me until Kat says we have to go and I gratefully stand and follow. We walk across the field in near silence, until I have too many questions to ask.
"Why was Nathan staring at me the entire time?" I turn to her, completely confused.
"I, personally, would be flattered to have Nathan Johnson staring at me Liv. He is only the guy the whole school practically wants." She rolls her eyes a little and flicks her braids over her shoulders, still walking towards the school building.
"Okay," I nod, trying to process until we walk up the stairs to the doorway of St. Cecelia's, but I stop in the doorway. "Kat, one more question. What is with all the blue and green eyes around here? Not to be rude or anything?"
"I was wondering when you would ask. I'll explain everything later," she promises, staring at my doubt. "I'll come by at eight. Wear something black."
