"so, what are we watching?" I asked, resting my feet on the coffee table in front of me while my body lies comfortably on the couch. "Your pick, m'lady" Jake replied, setting the food I brought with me on the table.
I heard the door open and slam shut. Instinctively, I stood straight up and asked, almost like a scream "What was that?" was that a robber or something? "Oh my gosh, Jake. Was that a thief?"
Jake replied "Oh that was nothing, probably just the wind" I could sense his nervousness but I just set it aside. I had to worry about this thief thing.
"I don't think the wind can open a door, Jake. I'm not kidding" I countered.
"Maybe you're hearing things, babe. Now, c'mon!" he motioned for me to sit back down and cuddle up beside him.
"I'm not crazy, Jake but whatever" I rolled my eyes and buried myself under his arm. Jake placed a blanket over me. "Thanks" I said.
Jake succeeded in calming me down by stroking my hair. But Just as I felt myself warm up, a phone rings. "Is that yours?" I asked Jake.
"Uh... yeah..." He fished for his phone in his back pocket.
"Who is it?" I asked, trying to take a glance at Jake's phone screen. He wasn't letting me.
"Oh? This? I-It's no one. Probably dialed up the wrong number" he shifted his body to a more comfortable position. He laughed. But I could tell he was faking it and I could also tell he was nervous. There was something he wasn't telling me. I just felt it. "Be honest, Jake" I sighed and he looked at me, sweat streaming down his face. "Did you have a fight with your mom or something? Or with your friends? I'm your girlfriend, Jake. You can tell me anything."
He stared at me uneasily.
"Jake?"
He blinked his eyelids and nodded. " Yeah... yeah I had a fight with my friends"
"Oh, Jake... I'm sorry. Wanna talk about it?"
"No need. I'm sure we'll be fine before the weekend ends."
"Okay... but promise me, no more secrets, okay?" I tilted his head with my palm so that he was facing me.
He was looking at me with those puppy eyes again. "I promise" He said, smiling sheepishly.
•-•-•
"... then I asked him to promise me to never keep secrets from me again" I explained, laying down on Chloe's bed, messing with the sheets and blankets. "Doesn't that seem weird? He looked so nervous. You could have seen him, Chloe. And the door suddenly opened then slammed shut!" I rolled over so that I was laying on my belly then I rested my chin on my palms. "Maybe his house is haunted." a tiny giggle escaped my mouth.
"Hey! Be positive Ms. Alpers, I bet that's nothing. Maybe he really did have a fight with his friends." Chloe stood up and threw a pillow straight to my face. "BE POSITIVE!"
"Jesus Christ, Chloe! You don't have to throw a pillow at my face to convince me to stay posi. Jeez"
"Sorry. I just had to make sure" Chloe said, winking at me.
"Never. Throw. A. Pillow. At. Me. Again, got that blondie?"
"Whatever. So, wanna have a sleep over? We can stay here at my bedroom like we always do, I'm sure my mommy will be alright with it."
yup, Chloe's a momma's girl. I'm sure as hell I ain't.
"cool. can I have dinner here? Your mom's the best fucking cook!" and yeah, Jane Baker a.k.a. Chloe's mom, cooks the best meals in Australia! In my opinion, at least.
