I stood up and stared at his extended arm.

"Yeah, with all these notebooks and papers towering infront of me, I can totally shake your hand." I stated, sarcastically. I watched as he maneuvered his arm back to his side. I dared look straight into his eyes.

He's handsome, I'll give him that.

We stood there awkwardly for a few seconds then I said, "sorry for the sarcastic remark. Uh... Cristie Alpers. My name's Cristie Alpers. You can call me Cristie or Cris but it's kinda boyish so you can call me Crissy so it's a bit girl like-"

"Whoa whoa slow down, person. I'm just gonna stick with Cristie." he said, cutting off my ramblings, an smirk crossing his face. "Would you mind if I walked you to your next class?"

"No, not at all." I said.

"where to, small person?"

"Hey, you little asshole! I thought you said you were gonna stick with Cristie!" I remarked, brows furrowed.

He nodded, "you are pretty small, y'know."

"Yeah, I agree. Pretty and small. Whatever, as long as I'm pretty."

He laughed, throwing his head back. "Don't get too ahead of yourself, Smurfette." I rolled my eyes, "so now I'm Smurfette?"

"Smurfette is cute!"

"Is this your way of hitting on girls you just met?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Maybe" he said confidently. "Is it working?"

I snorted and pointed to the room to my next class.

"Ah, so you're a junior" he said as we started walking. "Thanks for pointing out the obvious, Jacobz" I said. The classroom was obviously labelled with 'junior'.

While walking to my next class with Austin, I had learned a few basic things about him. He was a senior and he was smart. He was the president of his class and he liked the color green. I found another coffee mate! Needless to say, he loved coffee as much as I did. Halfway to the classroom, I froze.

"Hey! Smurfette, you a'ight?" asked Austin, waving his hand in front of my eyes but I didn't move a muscle.

My eyes were glued to two persons and two persons only: Jake Irvine and Johanna Twing.

Johanna was leaning against the lockers while Jake was in front of her. They were talking and they seemed pretty comfortable in front of each other. Maybe what Chloe thought was right. Maybe he really was cheating on me. But why would Jake do that to me? I haven't been doing bad things to him... right?

I couldn't take what I was seeing so, I stormed off quickly to my next class, stomping my feet. I heard a series of footsteps following behind me which I knew was Austin's.

When I arrived at the door, he reached out for my shoulders and turned me around to face him, "Hey, what's up? What happened? You zoned out back there." said Austin, worry written all over his eyes. "You seem so worried for a girl you just met 5 minutes ago." I said, teary-eyed.

Mr. Brant, our teacher, was already inside the classroom and was already instructing us to take our seats. "see you later, Austin." I said slowly, wiping my eyes with my left palm. I turned around to go take my seat. When that was done, I took a glance at the door. Austin was already gone. To his next class, probably.

The emotions I was feeling that second wasn't an excuse to not continue with the class. Needless to say, it went on. I kept quiet and steady, scribbling random things on my notebook. I wasn't even listening to Mr. Brant. My mind was floating around the image of Johanna and Jake talking to each other on the hallway. What the hell were they even talking about?

45 minutes have passed and there was still half an hour of second period left.

What was I going to do with Jake? Ignore him for the next few weeks? Act like I saw nothing? Or talk to him about it? First option sucked. Second was okay but then, I wouldn't get any explanation about it. Third option was obviously the one I was going to do.

I would just have to confront him. Maybe at the cafeteria? No, that would be too public and Chloe would obviously be there. I wouldn't want Chloe to know about what I saw. Because then she'd chicken out and remember Troy and then she'd cry cry and chicken out again. I don't want her to remember Troy. I wanted her to move on and stop with all the breakdowns.

The sudden ring of the bell brought me out of my thoughts. I gathered up my notebooks and stood up, ready for free period. I looked up only to see Austin Jacobz leaning against the door frame. I started walking towards him.

"Hey, sorry about earlier" I said, looking down in embarrassment.

"All good, Smurfette." said Austin. "wanna talk about it? whatever it was."

"Uh... I'd rather not." I said, kinda hesitating. I wanted to talk about it. I was just afraid that I might burst into tears in front of a person I just met. If there was someone that I could talk to about this issue, it'd be Chloe... but then again, she might chicken out. So I'm kinda on my own on this one.

Austin and I hung out in the hallway with Chloe. I introduced both of them and Chloe can't seem to get over the fact that Austin was cute. She kept whispering to me: 'good girl, C.' 'damn, those eyes' 'Cristie, he's perf.' 'he's mine, C... kidding'

Chloe finally stopped when I elbowed her to the side.

"Hey, girls. I gotta bail now, see ya later maybe?" Austin said, together with a wink. I think Chloe just melted. "Bye Austiiiin" Chloe cooed.

"see ya, Jacobz" I said.

"Did you see that Cristie?! He freakin' winked at me!" Chloe squealed

"oh, shut up and stop fangirling. He winked at bo-" then it dawned on me. What was I doing? Chloe was shitballs crazy for Austin! He might be the answer. Chloe could finally move on! I know they just met but all I needed to do was to get them to like each other and get them to hang out more.

"yeah, you're right, Chlo. He winked at you." I said, a playful grin planted on my face.

"Do you think he likes me, Cristie?" Chloe asked hopefully. "Yeah, he seemed to be having fun talking with you. He kept his eyes on yours but you were too busy muttering things in my ear." That was true. Austin did keep his eyes on Chloe's, though he did take a glance at mine a few times, but that doesn't change the fact that he really did seem to have fun talking to her. I was just there to listen to Chloe mumble things in my ear.

This just makes things easier.
