A few days had passed since Jack was injured, and a few weeks since Rock and Revy's fated encounter with the boy they now call their son. At this point, everyone close to the Lagoon Company knew of their relationship status and their adopted child. Nobody questioned it though; a few sorry souls learned the hard way thanks to the famed Cutlasses wielded by Roanapur's very own Two-Hands. In any case, they were a family. Nothing else to it. Jack was still on bed rest, and jobs were scarce for the crew of the Black Lagoon. On this particular day, however... their luck was about to change for the better.
It was around 11:30 in the morning, and everyone was asleep. Everyone except Rock and Benny, who had just begun calibrating some new equipment for the boat in the tech wizz's room.
"Hey, thanks for helping me out with this Rock. I know you really don't know a whole lot 'bout technology like myself, but I still appreciate an extra set of hands." Benny spoke as he slaved over a desktop computer.
Rock smiled as he worked on a circuit board. "It's all good Benny. It's not like we have anything else to accomplish."
"I have to agree with you there; it's a bit ridiculous that no one, especially Balalaika, has a single job for us." Benny complained.
He and Rock sighed collectively then continued working. A knock at Benny's door was heard, and Rock went to open it. Revy stood there in her usual top and a pair of sweatpants, her hair damp from the shower. They exchanged a pleasant good morning and kissed. Revy sat down on Benny's bed while Rock got back on his knees to finish the circuit board he was attending to. She lit herself a cigarette then passed the box of menthols around along with the lighter.
After a bit of silence, she piped up in a near-monotone voice. "So, I take it there ain't shit to do again today?"
Benny slumped over in his seat as he blew a cloud of smoke from his mouth. "Of course not."
Revy rolled her eyes, then collapsed on the bed like she was simulating death. "God DAMMIT!!! What is up with the streak of empty days? I'm sick of this, I need to use my boys or I will go insane!"
Rock exhaled after taking a hit from his cigarette.
"I know honey. But if no one has a job for us, then we can't just go picking fights."
Revy cursed a bunch of times then walked out of the room. Just then, the phone in the main room began to ring. Obviously Revy ran to it at Mach 10 and picked it up. After some unnecessary yelling and hysterical laughter, she came back into Benny's room with a huge smile on her face.
"We have a job!!!!"
