EPISODE 38: OPERATION BEAST BAIT
(Mostly Adapted from "The First and Last Chance" and "Fate of this Planet")

After a 30-second recap, we cut to Derrick entering the hospital for a scene that couldn't be included last time. After stepping through the doors, he nervously looks toward the receptionist's desk and starts walking forward, completely on edge over what's about to happen.

Derrick: Excuse me, ma'am?

Receptionist: (looks up) Hello, sir, how can I help you?

Derrick: Hi, I'm here to see a patient in your building, uh, Regina Barnett. She sent me a letter a few weeks ago telling me to visit and I finally made some time for one so I—

Receptionist: Are you Derrick Barnett?

He's surprised but answers back.

Derrick: Umm, y-yes, uh, how do you—?

Receptionist: (sigh) Your father told us when he was here earlier...I'm sorry to tell you this, Mr. Barnett, but...your mother is gone.

Derrick: ...Huh?

Receptionist: She passed away earlier today. You missed her by just a few hours.

Derrick is surprisingly stunned.

His facial expression is a bizarre combination of surprise and confusion all at once, surprisingly unsure about how to feel. Which is weird, right? A woman who never cared about him, who made him feel worse every day of his young life, and who hurt him is dead. He should feel over the moon or some kind of catharsis or satisfaction about this. And yet all he can do is just...stand there in shock.

Receptionist: I know you didn't come all this way to hear that.

He snaps out of it trying to brush it off.

Derrick: It's okay. I never liked my mom anyway and I didn't know if this would work out or not so...I'll just go.

He turns around, returning to his surprised state.

The receptionist stares at him, also confused by the response, as he walks out the hospital doors.

As the young Barnett steps out into the dusk breeze, the look doesn't disappear. Several seconds later, we fade into a shot of him farther down the sidewalk; enough to look up at the hospital overall. A cruel but not entirely undeserved response enters his mind, and he lets it out with almost no hesitation with a smile, even if it's disrespect for the dead.

Derrick: Hmph. Who's weak now?

He's about to walk away with a cathartic smile on his face but stops as the growing smile quickly turns into a look of guilt.

Derrick: W-Wait, what am I...I didn't really mean that, I don't...

His confusion grows.

Derrick: No, h-hold on, I did, why am I...what...?

He looks back at the hospital one more time, completely off emotionally, before shaking his head to try to brush these feelings off and continuing his walk, likely hoping to find a cab to drive him back to his hotel.

Hard cut to the Arrow Galion, where Blockhead is confused by the absence of a certain someone as Sagittar is served a drink by an Amoebanoid.

Text at the bottom of the screen naturally reads "One Day Later".

Blockhead: Midaria's still not back yet?

Sagittar: I'm afraid not.

Blockhead: Weird. That's not usually like her.

Sagittar: Would you mind going to look for her on Earth?
