Draco was Narcissa's baby boy. Named after a star constellation according to the traditions of House Black. He was her little bright star, his name literally meaning the brightest star in Eltanin (from Arabic for "dragon's head").
Nassaria was his twin, named by her father. The name, with Hebrew origin, means "crown" or "diadem". For his little princess.
Nessie, known by family members, was Draco's twin, coming out holding his foot. They had shared a womb together, and had been inseparable since the moment they were created.
But she hadn't been planned. The doctor's had told Narcissa she was pregnant with one child, and she had hoped for a boy. She had chosen his name well in advance.
When Nassaria came into the world holding her baby boy's foot, she was all but forgotten. Well, not forgotten, that would mean she was not cared for. Her father had embraced that he had a little girl.
A little girl could do nothing to hurt his position as the head of the Malfoy family. A little girl could not hurt his ego, nor could she threaten his authority as the man of the house.
A little boy could continue his legacy, but only if he was worthy. A little girl had no such weight upon her shoulders, she would marry some other pure blood and carry on her husband's legacy, not her father's.
So while Narcissa doted upon Draco, and tolerated Nassaria, spoiling the both of them with meaningless items like broomsticks, horses, expensive tutors, and clothes, she only spoiled Draco with her attentions.
Lucious on the other hand, doted upon Nassaria, and was constantly disappointed with Draco. Nassaria would excel in her studies, learning three languages by the time she was 8 years old, she could ride a broom, ride a horse, she was a prodigy in chemistry, and her tutors were sure she would be incredibly bright in whatever school she went to.
Draco would choose to run around with his friends, torment the horses rather than ride them, and break the broomstick blaming it for his inability to ride as swiftly as his sister. Chemistry made no sense to him, history was a bore and children's tales.
Lucious was proud of his daughter, believing her to be what a pure-blooded witch should be. Yet he would never admit it but he was scared that Draco was incompetent and would never be able to continue on the Malfoy legacy.
While Nyra learned quite early on that her mother preferred Draco, and accepted it, instead continuously trying to impress her father. Draco had a harder time accepting the same. Which only fueled the unhealthy rivalry between twins.
It was not so long ago that they were inseparable. As babies, they cried if the other was not next to them. Now, they despised being in the same room together.
Once, when they were four years old, Draco pushed Nassaria down the stairs after she had received praise from their father, and screamed "Take her back where you got her from".
Lucious had punished Draco severely, and to this day, Nassaria still does not know how. All she knows is that their father had taken Draco to his office, and then screams were heard. Narcissa had tried everything to get inside the office but Lucious had locked the doors. Draco returned red faces, puffy eyed, snot dried on his face. He cried himself to sleep in their shared bedroom as Nassaria listened.
Next morning, Lucious had taken Nassaria, and only her, with him to work. All of his business partners had doted on her, complimenting her beauty, and how alike she looked like her father. One of the business partners even dared to ask whether she would be inheriting the Malfoy business one day, forgetting all about Draco.
"We'll see", Lucious had answered.
And now, as the children had grown old enough to attend Hogwarts not the Durmstrong Institute, Lucious still doted upon Nassaria.
