Flora invited me to breakfast with Daniella and her. We sat at a small cafe close to their apartment.
When I got there, I found them sitting down and Flora was fixing Daniella's makeup before they both saw me and smiled.
I sat down in front of them, noticing that they had ordered me a plate of waffles with whipped cream and a strawberry on top.
"How are you?" Daniella says to me first, I notice the new lip piercing she's gotten.
"I'm good, really good actually" I know it was an overstatement but I didn't need or want anyone to know how badly I've been struggling so far.
After asking Ignacio for the job, I waited for his call which had yet to come.
I went back to studying and attending classes to realize that the semester was coming to an end which meant I would have to pay yet another large amount of money to sign up for classes.
"We missed you, Grace, we barely hear from you these days" Flora frowns a bit and stirs the spoon in her latte.
"Classes are starting again so I'm trying to pay for the best professors" I explained to her.
"Don't overwork yourself, I know you'll get your degree" She says to me and it makes me smile.
They go back to speaking to each other and my phone buzzes with a text from Ignacio, through the number he gave me which was his business phone number.
It said that he needed me to work for him tonight and not to be late. He needed me there at eight and that if I showed up, he'd subtract some of the money that my mother owed.
I replied to him that I would be there.
I haven't told my mother that I knew about the money she owed him, if I did she'd be upset at herself if she knew that I had to work for him to help her and I didn't want her stressing herself.
"You know Preston asked about you" Flora drew my attention away from my phone.
"He did?" I hadn't forgotten about Preston, I thought he was a kind person.
"He wants me to give him your number but I thought I'd let you do that yourself. So we're inviting you on a double date with us" She clasps her hands together and Daniella laughs, telling me that it was all Flora's idea.
"Tonight? I can't tonight, I have to meet one of my professors and I have a class" I tell her and her hands unclasp themselves.
I don't have a class or have to meet my professors and I didn't want to lie to Flora but I did have to work for Ignacio today.
"Fine then we'll change it to five o'clock because I know your classes are at seven anyways," She says and I don't say anything because she's right.
"Please don't call this a date, I've only met him once" I begin to cut in the soft and delicious-looking plate of waffles in front of me.
