sofia swiftly gets in her car. even though it felt rude she left early, it was important. if she didn't, she wouldn't know what'd happen next.
"madres been hit by a car, she's in hospital." was the last text she wanted to receive, especially with friends.
she keeps driving, only to get a call from joão. quickly, she picks up.
"sofia, are you alright? did we upset you." joão asks, nervously.
"no, no! you didn't!" sofia replies. "it's just that..." she pauses for a few seconds, whilst sniffling.
"sofia..." rodri mumbles in the background.
"mi hermano texted me... mi madre... she's in hospital... we don't know if she's going to make it." sofia replies, crying.
"sofia... i'm coming to that hospital. me and rodri will be there, soon." he replies.
"alright, see you soon joão." sofia adds.
she continues driving, hoping it will be okay. her mother was her best friend.
she pulls up to the hospital and looks for joão and rodri.
"sofia!" rodri shouts.
sofia runs to the boys and hugs them.
"i can't believe it..." she says in their arms.
"i know sofia, it will all be okay." joão replies.
"i hope..." she mumbles.
rodri puts his hand around sofia's shoulder and the three walk into the hospital together.
"fia!" her brother exclaims.
"hola..." sofia replies.
"sofia, are you al-
before joão could even reply, sofia had passed out.
"she'll be fine." sofia's brother says snarkily.
"alright good." rodri replies.
"you must be sofia's friends. i didn't know she had any boy friends." sofia's brother says yet again, very rudely. he stares at the two men snottily, like any overprotective brother would.
a nurse comes and takes sofia, joão and rodri into a room. sofia's brother stays with him and sofia's mother.
"she's so pretty asleep... sleeping beauty." rodri whispers.
joão replied by smiling awkwardly. he opens his phone, only to see sofia's mother in the news. he recognised it by the surname and area. tears come from his eyes reading the article.
"j-joão? what's wrong?" rodri asks.
"sofia's...mum. an article about her. she... she... she won't make it." he cries.
rodri just freezes.
"sofia's going to be so upset." rodri adds.
"g-guys... hows mi madre." sofia asks.
"i don't know, we need to see her though." joão replies. he was lying.
the trio walk to her mums hospital room. only sofia was allowed in, since she's close family. outside that door, the pair could see only so much. 'that much' was sofia falling apart. they feel the pain, as she pulls herself onto her mothers bed, hugging her desceased body.
"I CAN'T FUCKING BELIEVE THIS. WHOEVER DID THIS TO YOU MADRE... I SWEAR." she shouts angrily, crying.
sofia's brother takes her to joão and rodri.
"please take her home, this isn't good..." he says.
the two nod, carrying sofia out. rodri drives his car and joão drives sofia's car. he cuddles her in the backseat for a minute.
"i know... it's hard..." joão whispers.
"i just lost my best friend... i can't do this." sofia whispers back, still hanging onto joão.
"i know, i know. i lost my mother to... the same way." he replies, shedding a tear.
"oh... i'm so sorry." she adds.
the two still cuddle, for a good half an hour.
"j-joão... can you stay with me... please? i don't want to be alone... sorry." sofia asks.
"of course, no need to apologise."
joão drives to sofia's house. when they get back, he has his arm round her. he opens the door, to see coco.
"coco..." she mumbles.
sofia puts her hand into joão's and walks him into her room.
"wait here, i'm getting changed." sofia whispers, tears still out her eyes.
coco rubs her head next to joão, he looks down to smiles at the british shorthair.
"you can come in now." sofia shouts. joão walks in, coco following him.
he lies down next to her, hugging her.
"sofia i'll stay with you for as long as i can." he says.
"but you have training." she replies.
"it's fine! only a few hours, if you feel like it, you can come." joão whispers.
"i still need to sort out what i'm going to do. i can't work like this." she adds.
"i'll sort it. we should tell someone first. who's up at this time?" he asks.
"hm... not bobby. well, there's fabio carvalho." she says, picking up her phone and opening instagram dm's. "write the message in english... or portugese of you want to be fancy." she slightly smiles, joão slightly smiles back.
joão starts to write the message. "hi, this is sofia's friend. just incase she forgets, make sure people know she won't be in. her mother's died. also if you do, i'll make sure you start every game for portugal- joão cancelo." the text reads.
"please may you tell bobby?" she asks.
joão nods and does that.
all of a sudden, fabio replies.
"i will! i'm so sorry sofia." fabio replies.
"she says thank you." joão replies back to fabio's text.
fabio likes the message and joão turns sofia's phone off.
"thank you for being here joão, i appreciate you." sofia mumbles.
"your welcome sofia, i'll stay with you for as long as i can." joão mumbles back.
joão kisses sofia's forehead. the two fall asleep together.
