Bbh/Darryl POV
We walk back to Zak's place slowly, just enjoying the cool outside air.
I'm glad Zak and Vincent got along so well, they seem really compatible.
Zak's house is slightly further from mine the way we're walking, but the end result is much better.
Neither of his parents will be home, and his family accepts him if they were to overhear our conversation. Plus, I'm not even allowed to bring boys over.
The house is much bigger than mine, painted with a light blue and white trim. The front yard is exceptionally well kept and the front porch is lined with flowers. The whole atmosphere just makes me feel safe.
Zak's sister is home, but she doesn't really pay attention to us after introductions. "Hey Zak, who's this with you? I don't think I've seen him before."
Zak wraps his sister in a hug. "Hi, Sam. This is Darryl, he's my...friend."
She smiles sweetly at me. "It's nice to meet you. I'm making spaghetti for dinner if you'd like to stay."
"Of course, thank you."
I vaguely remember Zak saying his only sibling was his younger sister, but she definitely acts like the older sibling. It's sweet to see how close the two are.
We climb the stairs to Zak's room, and I'm surprised at all the expensive things he has.
The room is dark, but in a cozy way, with glowing fairy lights lining the walls. Random posters for bands I don't recognize are plastered above his huge bed. There's a tv on the far wall with a small couch in front of it. One corner has beanbags and small shelves of books, and another has a huge desk with an expensive PC setup.
The whole area is both cluttered, yet neat, and it makes me feel right at home.
Zak motions for me to sit on one of the beanbags. "Make yourself at home! I need to go ask my sister something, but I'll be right back."
He leaves the room, and I settle into a deep red colored beanbag, taking another look around the room. He's so lucky to have all this stuff, and he probably doesn't even realize it. My bedroom is less than half the size of this, and I'm not allowed to have any decor.
I'm snapped from my thoughts as I see Zak step back into the room, carefully closing the door behind him. "Sorry about that."
I wave it off. "You're fine."
He takes a seat in the baby blue bean bag next to me, sprawling dramatically. "So, about this whole, um, fake dating thing, I just felt like we should probably discuss it before we announce anything serious. Plus, we need to know each other's boundaries."
I nod, agreeing with him. "Yeah, that makes sense. Seeing as this is to get rid of your ex, I'm mostly willing to do what you want. I'm here to help."
He looks embarrassed. "Well, um, we need to, um, like, establish how far each of us is comfortable going. I really don't want to make you uncomfortable or anything."
"Well, I'm completely fine with holding hands, hugging, and all that, and maybe we can kiss but only on the cheek or forehead for now?" I start twiddling my fingers. "That might change later. I'm also fine with, like, pet names, just don't be weird or anything."
Zak smiles. "Ok, that sounds reasonable. I guess pretty much the same for me."
I remember something.
"Oh! And please try to hide it from teachers? My mom is constantly checking up on me by talking to them, and she would kill me if she found out. When I came out to her, I almost got kicked out." My eyes are downcast, as I nervously try to avoid looking at Zak.
"I'm sorry about that. Of course, we can be careful in class, even if Clay is there. He'll see us in the halls enough anyways." Zak puts a hand on my shoulder. "You can always talk to me if something is wrong."
"Thank you."
"Always."
We kind of shift our conversation, looking for something more lighthearted. We may be playing the role of boyfriends, but really, we're just best friends.
The subject of Minecraft comes up, and I'm pretty excited to hear Zak plays too. A little surprised, but still happy.
Seeing as we came straight from school, I have my laptop with me, and for almost two hours, we play bedwars together.
After a while, there's a knock on the door.
"Boys, dinners ready!" Sam yells from outside.
Zak glances at me and shuts off his monitor. "One sec!"
I shut my laptop and set it aside, standing up with Zak.
We walk downstairs to see scooping heaps of noodles onto three plates.
We each take a seat, and I'm surprised at how welcoming Zak's sister is.
"It's great to see Zak making new friends. How did you guys meet?"
I smile, instantly creating a believable lie. "We have a few classes together, but only recently started hanging out."
Zak gives me a thankful look.
We continue to talk through the rest of dinner, sharing our days and Sam and I beginning to get to know eachother better.
Once the meal is over, I help clear the table before joining Zak back in his bedroom.
We're about to watch a movie, but my phone starts blowing up with texts.
I check the sender to see that it's my mom. Great.

Where are you?
Get home right now
This isn't funny
You are in so much trouble
Darryl
You better gave a good excuse for thisI sigh, shutting off my phone. "Sorry, Zak. I have to go."
He frowns, pouting. "Aw, can I at least walk you home?"
I think for a second, wondering how my parents would react to seeing him.
"Um, maybe another time."
His frown deepens, but he still gets up to walk me to the door.
I gather my stuff and Zak pulls me into a hug. "I'll miss you."
I return the hug, wrapping my arms around his neck. "I'll see you tomorrow, you muffin."
"That's so looooong!" He whines.
I giggle, pulling away. "I'll text you later, kay?"
"Fine."
We exchange one last hug before I duck out the door, and start walking down the street.
The air is cool and damp, but I take my time walking, not wanting to be anywhere near my mother.
Sadly, Zak lives only just down the street, so it takes no more than five minutes, even at my snail pace.
I open the door cautiously, and when I see my mother sitting on the couch, watching the door with a scowl, I know I've screwed up.
