This hospital staff is wonderful they all are so nice. I've been awake for a total of 5 days now and the doctors are saying that I can go home right on time. The boys come to visit a lot and so does Sarah. I've been practicing those tests and I called my Aunt and when my mom died she was the next person in line to get those rights. Even though she was in prison they let her keep them because she was doing good.
I told my aunt about my plan and she said would help. Now I just have to tell my dad. I've seen him everyday since I woke up. She is the only one that knows my plan. I've even told him about Sarah giving me the honor to name my little sister. I've decided on Nala Carissa Morreno. Her last name was a definite. I told Sarah and she loved it so all that is planned. I get out of the hospital in three days and trust I've been counting down. I told my aunt and when I get out of the hospital she is coming to live with us. She already moved in so it's all set. My thoughts have been driving me crazy. I'm excited to go to this new school though.
Small knocks on my door take me out of my head. "Come in." I tell whoever it is. Ray walks in with his head down. "Hey Ray." he nods his head and sits in the chair next to my bed. I know something is wrong because he is the one that is always trying to make everyone laugh. His smiles look like they can be wiped off by a paper towel.
"What's wrong?" I ask him.
He looks up at me and takes a deep breath. "My mom." he answers.
"Is everything okay at home?"
"Nah she got cancer and them stupid treatments ain't working no more."
I'm shocked by this. Ray is super close with his mom he talks about her a lot and she sounds really sweet. I can see why he would come to me and talk but I'm sure the guys wouldn't make fun of him. Maybe he just needs some feminine advice or council. He probably feels I'll understand because I've already lost my mom.
He breaks down in tears and it breaks my heart to see him hurting like this. I grab his hand and he looks up at me. I smile and tell him, "I'm here for you and I'm sure the guys will be too."
"They already know but I ain't tell them she's not getting better."
"Tell them, they are your friends. You and Cardo were friends before all the rest of them."
His tears continue to fall as Cardo, Danny, and Carlos walk in. Ray stands up and tries to walk away but I grab his hand earning a weird stare from everyone.
"You guys don't look at me like that." I say before any of them can say something. They all nod their heads and come and pull chairs up around my bed. Ray sits back down reluctantly and wipes his eyes. Once everyone is sitting and listening I speak. "Ray is going through something that is really tough for him to speak about." I look at Ray for permission and he nods. "Ray's mother is not getting any better. He doesn't know if she'll make it."
Everyone looks at Ray and he just puts his head down. The sadness in the room is overwhelming. "Damn I thought Mama was doing good..." Cardo said scratching his head. I can tell this is hard for him to hear by the sound of his voice.
"Bruh, why didn't you say nothing?" Danny asks his voice shaky. I think Ray's mom is a bigger part of their lives than Ray realizes.
"They trying to bring hospice in." Ray says speaking for the first time.
"Dang man." Carlos Breathed.
"God takes away people for a reason and if you live right you'll see them again." I try to assure them.
They look so depressed and I really hate to see it. I'm tearing up now and I don't even know the lady.
"Guys remember the good times and don't hold it in. The best men cry." I say. We spend the rest of the night reminiscing about this strong woman. The way they talk about her I can see the respect and love.
"Remember that time your mama caught you with that broad." Carlos laughs.
"I'on even wanna talk about that!" Ray responds smiling.
"Lena this boy snuck a girl in through the window and had her up in there screaming!" Danny exclaims.
"I can't stand a loud one." Ray shakes his head.
We all start laughing and then My nurse Miss River comes in. I smile at her and she smiles back coming towards me making sure I'm comfortable.
"Well visiting hours are over but tomorrow is Saturday. I guess I could let you guys stay the night if its okay with the patient." Miss River said looking at me expectantly. I nod my head so fast I get a headache.
A few minutes later she rolls in another's bed on the side of mine since my room is so freaking huge. Everyone decides where they are sleeping and I go to bed watching 'Love and Basketball' on BET.
