Christie hawthorne stood with her family on the platform as her parents were going through her grades last term and how she would have to improve them , her eyes roamed around the train station zoning out her parents already knowing what they were saying considering they told this specific lecture to her numerous times in her holidays

"Are you even listening to us ? " Her mother snapped

"Yes I am , I know I have to do better this term " she said tiredly

"Being ranked second in your grade is not an achievement, you need to be first " her father said

"Anyways we expect better from you this term , don't be a disgrace to our family , Christie" were her mother's last words before they apparated leaving her alone in the train station .

She couldn't help but feel glad she wouldn't have to see them for a whole term as she stepped on the train searching for a place to sit , most of the empty compartments were taken so she was searching for one with less people in it , when she spotted a compartment which only had a boy sitting there

" Hey , is this seat taken " she asked hoping it wasn't

"No it's not , you can sit here " the boy said his face covered with his hands

She quickly sat down and pulled out a book to avoid eye contact with the mysterious stranger who was looking out the window

After some time the train halted to a stop and she fell towards the brown haired stranger who easily caught her body before she could fall of her seat .

"we couldn't have reached Hogwarts yet , why would the train stop before then" he whispered under his breath his face scrunched up in confusion

Just then a gust of cold wind blew through christies blonde hair and darkness enveloped them , it felt like all of her memories which had even a hint of happiness in it disappeared and she was left with feelings of dread and despair , she felt the stranger next to her reach out for her hand and keep it on top of his , as if he sensed all the bad memories going through her mind as sadness washed over making it feel like she'd never have happiness in her life again . It felt like an eternity before the lights came back up and the train started moving again .

"What was that ?" she asked still in shock

"I think they were dementors , im pretty sure we learned about them in third year , they suck out happiness " he said normally he didn't appear to be as shocked as her

"oh" she said feeling dumb , she could feel her fingers shaking as it traced a long scar on her leg

"here have this , it'll make you feel better " as he passed her a bar of chocolate

"no it's okay , im fine " she denied it thinking of her mother's comments in the morning about her figure

"suit yourself " he shrugged breaking off a piece of chocolate

He continued eating chocolate as he stared out of the window , as she took her book and opened it to some random page pretending like she was reading when in reality she was trying to look at him . She couldn't help but feel like she'd seen him somewhere before , but she couldn't be sure when she could barely see his face due to his hands covering her view of him

" So when are you gonna stop trying to look at me and actually talk to me " he asked nonchalantly his eyes still staring out the window as a ray of sunshine hit his face and he pulled his hand away revealing his face as she realised he was cedric diggory the schools 'golden boy'

" what – oh um I wasn't looking at you , why would I anyways , it's not much of a sight anyways " she sputtered out not wanting to admit she had in fact been looking at him

" how dare you , my face is stunning " he said looking highly offended but with slight humour in his tone

"whatever you say , sunshine" she replied in a sardonic tone

" don't call me that " he said a playful pout forming on his face

"sure sunshine anyways im christie hawthorne " she smiles as he rolls his eyes at the nickname

" I know who you are , we were in some classes together last year even though I doubt you noticed me , well im Cedric " he said extending his hand

"really ? well I know who you are as well , the whole school practically worships you " she said

"so does that include you ?" he said smiling

" you wish , sunshine " she snapped back

" ouch , you wound me " as he lay a hand on his chest dramatically

The train ride passed by quickly as they teased the other person in light hearted humour , and soon they finally reached hogwarts and quickly went to the great hall as they sat with they're respective houses , christie sat in the ravenclaw table next to Jake Blakeley who had been friends with her since her first year , as the sorting began , there weren't many new ravenclaws this year but they made sure to greet the new children in a warm manner .

"hey , you didn't reply to any of my letters in the holidays , what happened?" jake whispered as dumbledore made his speech

" nothing , you know how my family is , besides I didn't have much time anyways I was studying " she said covering up the sadness in her voice with a smile

"you shouldn't overwork yourself christie, your already the top of the class " he said as his dark brown eyes stared at her in concern

"Im not top of the class im ranked second but whatever it's fine anyways how was your holiday, didn't you go to Paris " she said quickly diverting the topic from herself

Jake immediately brightened up as he started talking about the beautiful sights and all the things he did there , as she listened to him rave she couldn't help but feel lucky that she had him in her life , she remembered how in they're first year she was all alone and noone talked to her but one day in lunch he sat next to her and started talking about quidditch and after that they were practically inseparable .

Cho chang spotted her across the table and waved to her as she was getting up , they weren't particularly close friends but they were roommates so they talked to eachother occasionally, soon after dinner was over everyone headed to they're rooms to sleep . Christie unpacked her suitcase and was getting in bed when marietta edgecombe entered the room talking to cho about her family and the things they did together in the holidays, Christie couldn't help but feel jealous of the ravenclaw girl knowing her family was nothing like that .

As she twisted and turned in bed trying to sleep , all that was going through her mind were her families comments about how she should've been in slytherin, and she was a disgrace to they're pureblood dynasty , the scar on her leg started itching and burning .

She needed fresh air , slowly she got out of bed shakily careful not to make any noise as she headed to the astronomy tower

Once she got to the top she realised someone was there but she was too tired and exhausted to bother about anyone seeing her in this state so she just sat down with a thud when the person turned around and she realised it was cedric the boy from the train

"hey chéri , what are you doing here" he said with a smirk on his face after using a nickname

His eyebrows furrowed in confusion when she didn't reply until he saw the state she was in and he walked towards her

" Here , you're shivering" he sat next to her and placed his jacket around her shoulders

He started to point out the constellations in the sky as she started to calm down a bit and leaned towards him .

" hey, we should probably go now it's getting late " she said half- heartedly as he mumbled an agreement but neither of them made a move to leave

His arm was wrapped around her waist as she leaned on him with his jacket on her body , they stayed like this for hours . Until rays of yellow and red started to show up in the sky and the darkness which surrounded them slowly disappeared, that's when they got up .

" hey , uh thanks for the jacket " she said removing it and extending her hand to give it to him

" keep it , it looks better on you anyways chéri" he said as he left the astronomy tower .
