A smile unknowingly found its way onto her face as she sat by the porch waiting for her new guardian to come and pick her up.
" Well , someone's excited." Aurora turned to face the young woman who lovingly smiled down at her only making hers falter.
The 11 year old stood up and ran into the woman's arms being welcomed in a hearty embrace.
" I'm going to miss you Miss Rose."
She had only known the woman for barely a year and yet she was more than willing to remain stitched at her side for as long as the universe could allow.
Who could blame young Aurora? Miss Rose had been there for the only year in her life that she had actually come to understand what love truly was. And quite frankly , it didn't involve being given candy to shut up about all the horrible things that were being done to her when no one else was watching.
" I'll miss you too Rory."
Aurora was really going to miss that nickname. If possible , she wanted that as her full name. The last time she had made such a request , Miss Rose had melted at just how adorable she had been , but had assured her how much her name was just perfect as it was.
" Can't I just stay here...with you?" Aurora pleaded.
" I wish you could darling and trust me , I really want you here with me too... much more than you could ever imagine , but it just can't be done."
" Can't? Well , can't you just adopt me?"
The question had caught Miss Rose completely koff guard as she suddenly couldn't find herself to reply. Only managing to fumble over her own words.
" I... Aurora... It's just that... I..."
" It's okay. You already have a lot of work to do around here and you just can't. I understand. I also wouldn't want to be a burden."
Miss Rose had blinked before hugging Aurora even tighter.
" Aurora. You're not a burden , okay? Don't you ever dare call yourself that again. Do you hear me? If anything , you're just too perfect and innocent for this world." , her voice cracked , " You're not a burden."
She pulled away and Aurora noticed a tear drop from one of her eyes before she quickly wiped it off.
A car honking by the entrance caught both their attention before little Aurora could ask why she was crying.
" Just wait a little longer , okay? Know that I love you so much. More than anything else in this world. Just you wait and I'll explain everything to you once you're older. Just stay safe for me , okay?"
Those were her last words before brushing a stray strand of curled hair behind Aurora's ear and hurrying back inside the orphanage home.
" Let's get you ready dear. Your ride has arrived." Mrs Hawlette , an older lady came up to her side , softly patting her head before helping Aurora to carry her suitcases over to the car.
" Is Miss Rose okay?" the troubled child asked , fiddling with her fingers and only hoping that she wasn't the cause of the woman's sudden sadness.
" I'm afraid she's having a hard time with your departure. Just like everyone else. But I think she has more to say to you , just not now sweety. I promise she'll explain everything to you once you're both ready. Just as she promised. "
