"How was your first day, Jess?"

My name flowed off his tongue perfectly.

"Uh too soon to tell I think, so much going on I just feel like a spare part to be honest."

"I saw you earlier, you looked like you fitted in perfectly."

I looked down at my shoes smiling and could feel my cheeks going red.

"Where's your car? Have you got a long drive home?"

"Wow so many questions," I giggled, "Actually I live about 20 minutes from here, my dad came to pick me up today." I gestured over to my dad sitting in his car in the car park.

"Don't tell me, you don't have a license?"

"Don't laugh at me but because we lived so close growing up my dad and I would always drive by, if there was events, we'd be the first here and it was his dream as much as mine for me to work here and he always told me growing up he'd drop me off and pick me up on my first day... I had to let him."

"Laugh? My Dad was my mechanic for years when I was in karts, you bet he follows me around for major races, Dads are our biggest fans I love it."

"I shouldn't keep him waiting any longer, if I do, he'll be joining in our conversation itching to find out about my day."

"It's a nice night, what are you doing later?" I almost laughed at his pure ignorance to me saying I wanted to get back to my dad who was most definitely trying to lip read this entire conversation from his car.

"Nothing, I live a boring life Daniel, at most I'll spend the next hour de-briefing my dad and then crash with Netflix." I giggled.

"Great, text me your address and I'll pick you up at 8?"

He held out his phone with an empty contact open, waiting for me to put my number in. I looked at the phone, then up to him, then back to his phone.

"Considering it's a Friday night and you're going home to watch Netflix I'm assuming you're very much single and I'm not overstepping here, therefore, I'd really like to take you out Jess before things get crazy here and we don't get the chance."

I smiled at his forwardness; I admired the confidence I couldn't say no to that. I tapped my number into his phone and after a quick goodbye I ran back to my dad's car.

"Is that who I think it was?"

"Just drive Dad please," I laughed, "Please don't drool any more than me."

"Tell me all, you have no idea the state I've been in all day."

"It was good, I have my own desk, got my own headset, sat in on a briefing, it was only an induction I get my uniform on Monday and the real work starts in a few weeks after trainings, but I think I'm going to be happy here."

"I'm so proud of you were one," He has lived in England probably more than half his life, but my dad's thick Scottish accent was still going strong, "But really, did you give Daniel Ricciardo you're number? I've been so excited about him joining Red Bull and you both start on the same day and exchange numbers?"

"He asked me out tonight." I replied shyly.

"Say no more."

He drove me home like the drive was the difference between him being offered a seat with red bull himself.

When I finally faced my wardrobe, I realised I really didn't own anything worthy of going out on a date in. I didn't date excessively in unit, the thought of first dates give me the fear but there was something about Daniel.
