Sophie called for a meeting once she got home. Within a couple hours, everyone showed up. Fitz and Biana arrived first, followed by Tam and Linh, Dex, Marella and Mr. Forkle. Everyone was there. Expect Keefe. His absence still stung like acid, like it was only yesterday he ran away to the Neverseen. Like it was only yesterday he left her with 5 words.

sorry i broke the promise.

It had been 1092 days since Keefe left. Not that she was counting. Not like every day he didn't come back hurt more than the last. But Sophie had priorities. And saving the world always came first. It was her job as the moonlark. So she didn't worry about Keefe, didn't so much as think of him, and she kept him tucked in the corner of her mind. Everything was working out fine.

"We think a new pyrokinetic started the fire at Everglen." Sophie surveyed the room, watching for her friend's reactions.

"It was weird too. There was this clump of fire near the door of the reception hall. It took hours to burn out." Biana filled their friends in with the rest of the details, the fire and the mysterious disappearing pyrokinetic.

"Are you sure it wasn't Fintan?" Tam asked, and Sophie shook her head.

"We don't know anything for sure, but Fintan is in the council's custody. The council would've said something if he escaped."

"Another unregistered pyrokinetic?" Marella fiddled with fire in her palm.

"That is definitely a possibility Miss Redek, but we must consider, is the pyrokinetic working with the Neverseen? Or are they working independently?" Mr. Forkle brought up something Sophie hadn't considered. She had assumed the pyrokinetic worked for the Neverseen, it had always been the two sides, Black Swan and Neverseen. There had never been a third party considered.

"Marella, can you research how to change fire? Or even try it yourself?" Sophia asked.

"Suck with the boring job? I can literally create fire. And the Neverseen don't have their pyrokinetic anymore! I'm more useful actually fighting!" Marella complained.

"Welcome to my world." Dex scoffed.

"Marella," Sophie walked towards her friend, "you can create fire. And the best way to figure out what this pyrokinetic did, is to ask a pyrokinetic to help figure it out. It's not useless." Marella mumbled something that sounded like 'stupid moonlark', but suck with Sophie's plan.

"As for the rest of us," Sophie sucked in a breath, "we have to get ready."
