" John, Come here, will you?"
I slumped up from my seat, leaving the comfort that it held for the past hour or so. The heat lingered in the summer air, humid from being on the beach side of California. We lived on a small beach house that my family and i had been living in for the past 2 years. Ever since dad died, our things kept on mysteriously disappearing, forcing us to leave our mansion in Ohio and going back to the small flat that mother swore we would never go back to again.
I walked into the small kitchen, eyeing the tall, slim woman sitting on the marble counter with a cigarette hanging from her lips. puffs of smoke surrounded her, grey and drifting upwards. I walked up to her slowly, feet freezing against the cold tile floor beneath me.
" I need you to pick up you re sister from school." she mumbled.
" Again? why cant you pick her up for once?" I asked, complaining about the multiple times i had to pick up the whiny 9 year old from her school across town. She crushed the cigerette in the empty sink and stood up in front of me. her deep red hair was frizzy, messed from only hours of sleep a night. She glared at me, angry from my retaliation.
" You ARE picking her up from school, and youwont argue with me."
" But-"
" LEAVE."
She pushed my shoulders towards the door, kicking me out of the house. I landed on the sand, a loud thud as she slammed the wooden door hard behind me. I seriously needed to find a new place to live, being a 21 year old in a group of girls wasn't exactly what i had planned to do with my life. What choice did i have, though?
i picked up my sister as she got in the car. She screamed as a building fell. i got out of the car as my sister doesn't make it. I watched terrified as she lay on the cement floor, crushed by another tree that hit her frail body.
" Alexandra!" i cried, jumping from the car that was now crushed from the fallen debris. The vehcicle engulfed in flames as i pulled Akexandra's arm away and dragged the crushed little girl to a safe corner. i lay her down on a clear surface on the ground and felt for a pulse.
" W-will...?" she whispered. i nodded and held her hand. She was still alive. i brushed her dark hair from her fave and lay my sister in my lap, calming her down. it took me a second to actually comprehend my surroundings.
The air was now full of dust, things fallen from high places and people wounded in the streets. There were cars in the street, taking the wounded people and putting them in the cars. i took a closer look. The vehicles were not native to the California neighborhood.
