Minecraft: Path to Knowledge

Chapter Two: Memories

I have been on the building crew for a couple of days and all we have done is rebuild roads and some older buildings. One repair, in particular, was an old church that was being retrofitted with stone bricks. I was placing the third layer of bricks and had a memory come back to me.

Memory

I was building an underground building with stone bricks. The building itself was nothing to sneeze at as the size and complexity was nothing seen before.
"Get that wall done and meet..." the same male voice from my dream said but was cut off.

Reality

"Earth to Steve, you in there?" Harvey said.
"Yeah, I just had a memory come back to me," I said.
"Well let's get the rest of the retrofit done and you can dwell on it later," Harvey said.
We continue and finished just after midday. As I placed the last stone brick my footing slipped and I fell to the ground blacking out.

Dream

"Hurry, It's here!" A guard yelled. "Get to the stronghold!"
I ran with a lot of unfamiliar people to the "stronghold" as we entered the dream changed.
"This will be our last ditch effort to survive," an eerily familiar man said.
We stood on a watch tower overlooking what appeared to be a portal being built.
"Once it's open we...." He started.

Reality

"Hey, Steve," Kyle said. "Good to see you back in the over-world."
"Where am I?" I asked.
"You are in the town's medical building," Harvey said. "We brought you here shortly after you fell."
"I had another memory come back to me but it was fragmented like the rest," I said.
"What can you remember from them?" He asked.
I told him what I could remember.
"Stronghold huh?" He asked. "I think I remember one of the explorers mentioning a building like that nearby but couldn't find a way in."
"Where can I find this explorer?" I asked.
"He had a misadventure a few weeks ago," He said with sadness in his voice.
"I'm sorry to hear that," I said.
"It's ok, I think his journey log is still in the exploration office," He said.
"Where can I find it?" I asked.
"I'll walk with you there isn't any work right now," He said.
We walked to the exploration office. We stopped at a butcher's shop for some food on the way.
"Stan makes the best steaks in town," Harvey said walking in.
We got our steaks and ate them walking the rest of the way to the exploration office. When we got there we entered and the clerk asked us if we needed anything.
"Yes, can we see Victor's journey log?" Harvey said.
"Yes, right this way," the clerk said.
We followed him down a hall and stopped before the bookcase rounded the corner.
"Let's see... ah here it is," he said handing it to me.
I opened it and found a lot of interesting journeys Victor had.
"Could I borrow this?" I asked.
"Go ahead just make sure it gets back to us, we use these for map making and we haven't fully examined Victor's last couple of journeys yet," The clerk said.
"Thank you," I said.
Harvey and I left the office.
"I'm going to head home and examine the log," I said.
"Ok," He said. "See you around."
I went home and started to read the book there was mention of mineshafts around the area and a temple in a jungle a ways away from the village. I found out that the stronghold was just past the temple.
I decided to call it a night and head to bed.

Dream

"Steve, come on, it's getting dark!" A familiar female voice said.
"Oh come on Alex, the temple is not too much farther I promise," I said.

Reality

I woke up finding it was dawn.
"Alex?" I asked myself.
I went through my emeralds and counted them. I had 120 from the work I did.
I made my way to the market and went to the armor merchant.
"Do you still have that diamond armor?" I asked.
"Yes, the price is 40 emeralds," He said.
"I thought it was 80?" I asked.
"You have done so much for the town that I am giving you a discount," He said.
I gave him the emeralds and left with the armor. I made my way to the blacksmith to get a better sword.
"What's the best sword you have?" I asked.
"I have a diamond sword for 60 emeralds," He said.
"I'll take it," I said handing him the emeralds.
I left the shop and made my way to the building crew office.
"Is Kyle in?" I asked.
"He's in his office," Harvey said.
"Thank you," I said.
I walked down the hall to Kyle's office.
"Hey Kyle, I have some things to take care of so I won't be able to work until I get back," I said.
"Thank you for letting me know," Kyle said. "Have a safe trip."
"Thank you and I will," I said.
I left the office and started towards the Exploration office to return Victor's log. After I returned the log I began my journey to the temple.
Before I began my journey I stopped at my house and grabbed some essentials such as food, torches, spare pickaxe, crafting bench, and a flint and steel.
After making sure I had everything I began my journey.
