Chapter 16- Talia

Both of us sat in front of him when we entered the restaurant. As much as the atmosphere was classy, I couldn't stop staring at him. He touched his lips while looking through the drink menu. I nibbled my bottom lip and cleared my throat. His jawline was sharp. Mouth was full when he ran his tongue over it. "So, Damon told us about you. This meeting. What kind of endeavor are you interested in?"

"I'm expanding," he said. His tone sounded known yet subliminal.

"Expanding?" I asked.

"Since my father passed, he entrusted me to make more money. I plan to keep it that way. I'm investing. More is always better, don't you think?"

"You can say you trust us? How would we know the business?" Jennette asked with wonder and a laugh.

"More on that later." He waved his hand off dismissively. "I want to know more about you two on a personal level. Let's get a drink. Waiter." He held up his index finger and the waiter came up immediately. He scurried up to our table, long black hair and a wide smile.

"Damn," Jennette whispered in surprise.

"That's power, bitch," I whispered back.

"You got that right."

"A bottle of champagne," he ordered.

"Yes mister Falls." he nodded and then scurried away.

"Wow, everyone just falls to your bidding, huh?" Jennette asked in an amused tone.

"When you own everything. Well-" he shrugged.

"Everything?"

"I have bits of money in most of the town's businesses. How do you two know each other?" He asked.

"Well, we went to high school together for four years. Reconnected after we graduated from university. Now we're roommates," Jennette explained as simply as possible. I nodded.

"Huh," he said, looking down. I shook my head.

"We had some wild parties at our apartment," I said with a giggle. Jennette looked at me with a scolding stare.

"Yes. wild parties," Jennette responded robotically.

"You ladies stuck out from that party. I saw you two having a good time."

"I remember seeing you that night. We bumped into each other," Jennette said.

"We did. Your face has left an imprint on me. I haven't been able to shake it off."

"We have those faces. Unforgettable. Gorgeous."

"You're sweet talking us," Jennette said, flipping her hair away from her shoulder.

"Absolutely. Both of your families come from money, how did you end up working at a comic book company?"

Me and Jenny looked at each other. Of course he would know that, Damon told him our last names and looked us up. I didn't mind that we came from money. My parents owned banks, her parents owned shopping malls. We worked because we wanted to. Money lasted for a long time from every outlook.

"Work experience," I answered. "Building an empire like yourself."

"She's right." Jennette agreed with a smile. "Our own legacy, if you will. I'm an artist. I draw my own comics. I want to start my own company."

"I like that." He smirked. The waiter came around with the bottle of champagne. Bennett thanked him. He opened it, pouring the liquid in the champagne flutes. I took a sip. Mmm. That is good. I drank my whole glass and asked for another.
