Meeting An Old Friend

Zach pulled to the side off the road a block from the cemetery. Quietly we all climbed out the car. There was still an hour an a half before we were supposed to meet here and by that time it would be dark. The people in this town had always been paranoid and went bed by dark. Before we left I made sure everyone had at least ten hidden weapons on them. As for me I had hidden daggers and guns but I also carried a bow and a sword. My magic always worked best with medieval weapons. Soon arriving in the cemetery we quickly scouted out the area to make sure no one was there. After that we climbed up nearby trees.

We had made sure of our plan before we left before I told the others that I needed to think in absolute quiet on the drive and before the fight. When he arrived I would jump down and confront him. If he happened to bring anyone with him the others would come down to. Otherwise they would stay hidden. Suddenly the temperature dropped and nearby tombstones frosted over. A tall 22 year old man came into view before stopping right in front of my tree. I jumped down glaring while he gave me smile.

"Tell me who are you and why did you kill my parents?" I asked.

"I can't believe you don't remember your own cousin. We used to always play together when we were younger." He answered. Shocked I took a step back and looked at him closer.

"M-Max..."

"The one and only."

"B-but why? Why did you do it? Why did you leave?"

"I received my power many years before you. Once I got my magic I was able to look back and see all the signs pointing to the fact that I had power. After that it didn't take me long to see that you had hidden power too. I decided to wait and for you to get your power. Knowing that I needed to stay away from you so you didn't find out about my magic I killed my parents to get them out of the way and set the whole plan in motion.'

"At the funeral I could tell you were torn up. That's when I noticed your power well up yet it wasn't enough emotion to release your magic. I was tired of waiting for it to come out on it's own and that's when I realized that if you got emotional enough I could force your power out. Soon after that I murdered your parents but when your power was finally released I was astonished. It was incredibly strong and there was no way I could overpower you at that time. Realizing this I began seeking out weak magic users and killing them for their magic power.'

"Now I am strong enough to kill you too. I was actually ready long before but you somehow eluded. Angry I killed all your friends. However using my magic I located you and found out you were kidnapped. I started attacking you from a distance until now where we will fight to the death." Max finished with an evil laugh.

"You disgust me and if you think that you're walking away from this with my power your wrong." I growled. Focusing my strength I lit my sword in flames. I leapt forward only to meat a ice wall. My fire melted it but unfortunately my sword broke in half. Laughing Max leapt forward with an ice spear in his hand. I rolled out of the way but the spear still scraped the side of my thigh. I let out a small scream and stood back up before he hit me again but it didn't take long to realize that the attack was making my leg go numb. I t wouldn't be much longer before I wouldn't be able to stand. I shakily lifted my hand up and shot a fireball after fireball at him. He kept jumping out of the way but I managed to hit is arm with the last one. Max growled and threw another ice spear at me. I'd already lost to much blood from my thigh that I couldn't move out of the way. The spear lodged itself in my stomach and pain flared through my body. The spear immediately melted but I still fell to the ground.

I'd used so much magic power yesterday that I barely had anything left. I healed my wounds but still didn't have enough strength to get back up. I couldn't believe it was already over......
