The Siren

Leaving

              I had been seeing Laddie for several months. Everyday at sunset I would wait until the boys and the girl left for the night. I don't know why they decide to leave a little boy alone. There have been a couple of night the whole group stayed in all night so I couldn't visit. But once they were gone I swam into the underground cave opening and called for Laddie like usual.

              I lounged around for a minute before seeing a rambunctious little kid come barreling through the tunnel. Already in his swimsuit and holding a beach towel.

"Are you ready little one?" I asked hopping up on some rocks leading to the pool. My smile widened when I saw him nods his head furiously. I had been helping him with his speech as well as giving him swimming lessons. "Words Laddie. Remember we are working on verbal communication." I said playfully scolding him.

"Yes momma." He replied out loud. He has gotten into the habit of calling me momma for the last month. Not that I mind, I love kids. But I rather adopt children than give birth to children myself. There are so many lost ones without homes.

My smile widen even more if that was possible. "Well then get over here and let's begin." I said gesturing him over. Laddie ran over to me after putting his towel down and practically jumped into my arms.

I made us both fall into the water when I caught him. We both popped up with him still in my arms. He wiped the hair out of his eyes and waited patiently for me. "Today we are going to learn different strokes ok?" I asked. Laddie was a pretty good swimmer, and he told me when he got older he wanted to learn how to surf.

I let him go and laid back in the water. I proceeded to teach him;backstroke, breast stroke, butterfly, and two other ones. We also continued his lesson in floating. He was still having a little trouble with keeping in the water. He really wanted to play.

We ended up taking a break and he was writing and drawing in the dirt while I watched him. Laddie ended up running back to the main cave and brought me a sketch pad with a pencil. He said that it was his brother Marko's stuff but he lets him use his stuff when he wants to draw. Laddie ended up drawing a picture of me, him and his brothers and star. I was telling him how good it was when I looked at his face and saw how sad he looked. I sat down the drawing of him I was working on to comfort him.

"What's wrong Laddie? Your picture is really good and looks adorable." I said trying to comfort him.

"Momma are you going to leave me like my real parents did?" He asked while almost crying. I thought long and hard for a moment. I didn't know what to tell him. His brothers are getting too close to seeing me. Everyday they come back earlier and earlier. They were trying to catch me. I am intruding on their territory. But I don't want Laddie to hate his brothers for driving me away.

"As much as I would like to stay forever I can't. But I will always be in your mind and your heart. Remember as long as you are wearing the special bracelet I gave you. I will be able to find you and hear your thoughts and dreams when you want to talk. I will also end up coming back here to you after sometime has passed. I live forever remember. " I said pulling him into a comforting hug as he sheds some tears.

It broke my heart to have to tell him that. I didn't want to leave him. Not at all, in the few months of us spending time together. Laddie practically became my son. But I don't want anything to happen to him. Plus I know He is looking for me. I can't let him know about Laddie he will use him against me.

I finished out the lyrics as his tears stopped falling. We broke apart when we heard someone clearing their voice. "So this is the secret you have been keeping from the boys isn't Laddie." We both looked up and saw Max.

I knew max from way back, I actually saved him from a shipwreck leading into the new world and lead him to his maker. Laddie stood up fast and obviously afraid. My face turned neutral and then into a scowl. "Hello max it's good to see you again. Although I don't think I like the taunting tone you are using." I said scolding him.

Max let out a light chuckle. He knows what I am capable of and knows not to cross me. "I am not taunting anyone. Ever since you accidentally scratched yourself in the cave the boys have been questioning Laddie non stop. The poor boy even got in trouble for protecting you. Now I thought you were smarter than that Calypso." He stated in an arrogant tone of voice. God this man was a prick then and is still a prick.

"What do you want Max?" I asked in my authoritative tone of voice. I may look young but I am much older than Max and could kick his ass.

"Relax Calypso I am here in good standing. I came to visit the boys and star but since they aren't here I heard your voice. It was mere coincidence that you were here." Max said relaxing his shoulders and throwing his hands up in unarmed gesture. I knew his gesture didn't mean shit. I know exactly what Max is capable of but I am stronger and he doesn't dare to test me.

            "Well then if you don't mind. I am about to leave. I won't be back for a while. Take care of laddie for me while I am gone will you? And if you make him cry I will be back and I will make you pay got i?" I asked giving him a sickly sweet smile. I know he was trying to get into my head. I let him and I showed him what I would do if he didn't comply with my request. It may have seem really harsh, but it's what he deserves for the others he has killed. I watched as he nodded in fear.

             I turn to laddie who was still eyeballing Max. "It's ok little one. He won't hurt you if he knows what's good for him. The others should be back here soon anyways.  I must go, be a good boy and don't forget to contact me once in a while please. I don't want you to feel like you're alone." Laddie nodded his head before hugging me. He turned to max and they walked out of my sight together. I relaxed in the pool of water for a minute before taking off through the underground cave opening.
