Reyna came over around six. Secluding ourselves in the tv room we end up deciding to spend the evening watching some campy horror movies. I find myself not that into it, finding myself drifting more into my own thoughts rather than focusing on the monsters on the screen. There's something about living in a real horror story that makes it hard to get into a movie about one. Reyna on the other hand was enthralled by it, hanging on every corny line of dialogue. It's only when the monster did make its appearance that I find myself tuning back in. A was a rather creative interpretation of a werewolf. Nothing realistic, but I can't help but think about if it was.
Reyna had ended up laying against me, her hand in mine as we were watching the movie. I could feel her heart racing during the action scenes. Each time she jumped in surprise Heather's words resounded in my head "She's not always truthful around you..." I just couldn't seem to shake it. In this dark room I was watching a movie with a girl who finally showed me how happy I could be. But... What if Heather was right? I just couldn't shake that nagging feeling like something was going to go terribly wrong.
Tuning back into the movie I crack a smile. Something about seeing Hollywood's interpretation of monsters is really entertaining to see. The amount of details that they accidentally get right in some situations can't be a coincidence. If I had to guess I'd say that at least some of the writers are actually hunters themselves. Trying to add their real world experiences into the fiction they're portraying on screen. This movie however, spends way too long describing why silver is the only thing that can kill the monster. Almost too long, like we didn't know what a werewolf was.
Yeah that's bullshit. It does help quite a bit, but just keep shooting the bastard... I mumble in my head. The movie all in all wasn't that long. Never overstaying it's welcome. The good guys beat the monster with their knowledge about silver and walk off victorious into the rising sun. Typical of these types of movies. It was fun and not afraid of gore. We both laugh about the absurdity of it, the corny dialogue and acting was over the top. Which in this situation made it better.
"I think I really liked it." Reyna smirks, "I liked the how they spun the monster. Felt different this time."
"Yeah?" I ask, "Seemed like a lot of other werewolf movies to me. But I'm glad you enjoyed it."
"Hey Kyle you alright?" Reyna asks, looking up at me. "You have that sad look on your face."
I quickly drop my frown, unaware I was outwardly reflecting my conflicted emotions. "Yeah. I'm alright. Sorry, just been stuck thinking about things. Nothing to worry about." I flash her a smile, trying to show reassurance.
"Thinking about what? If it's you we're talking about I think it's something to worry about." Reyna says sitting up, scooting up beside me. "That face you were making. It reminded me of when I found you alone in your car." She grips my hand, squeezing softly.
My heart lurches in my chest. A sudden wave of emotion causing my words to hitch in my throat. "I..." I take a challenging swallow. "I can't lie to you Reyna. I don't want to lie." I turn to face her on the couch. Her emerald eyes shining in the low light, reflecting the light from the tv. "I had a conversation with Heather earlier. She said some things... I just can't seem to get out of my head."
"Wait. What?" Reyna suddenly tenses up, our hands still intertwined, "What did she have to say?" We both have our grievances with Heather, so I don't really put much thought into her sudden reaction.
"She said you aren't truthful when you're around me." I say, trying to meet her gaze. "I just can't seem to get it out of my head. She has to be lying though. Right?" More emotion flooding my chest when she drops her gaze, suddenly I find myself growing nervous. "Reyna?"
